It's a test. Anyone who gives up their password that easily is disqualified for consideration for that job position.

I worked some where where I had to do a full disclosure background check once, and they needed access to my personal emails as part of it. I don't think collages have any right to this information, and frankly only people with access to extremely confidential in should ever need to vet candidates to this degree. Personally I would never ever ever do it again with out some serious bank waiting for me on the other side. It's just uncomfortable to have an employer THAT intimate with the personal details of your life.

Facebook passwords no problem or any social media, I share my password to FB with some friends so they can stalk other people lol.

However personal email, NEVER. If you give me a business email for that company, sure go ahead and creep on my business emails. But NEVER EVER personal emails.

Companies that have a legitimate reason for asking for that information, are able to establish what your real stuff is and what your fake stuff is.

Also if you just make up an email or facebook account on the fly and give them the pass words they'll be able to sniff it our pretty quickly because it won't have any real established history.

I'd give 'em some floss, and then the login information to a FB page that I'll make called "Suck my hairy nuts".

We check tenants' profiles. We have seen some public stuff that works far better than a credit and reference check.

I am going to play a devil's advocate here...

Anyone who thinks their Facebook material is private is not a realist. The premise of social media is sharing information and that is what makes it exciting. You can control it to a degree but ultimately, it is not truly private, is it?

Any posts going up on FB should be assumed to have beem made public. You don't have to go far to find examples of people doing stupid things on FB and regretting it (like an employee complaining about her boss and then getting fired).

While I would not want a job that requires to know about me by reading my personal emails, I can see how opening up social media (no, not providing your password, merely adding your coach as a "friend") makes sense for schools.

You can delete your FB so it doesn't show up and once you get the job reactivate it. I know a number of people that have done that and it works great. Just tell the employer that you deleted your account and what else can they do.

This is understandable but having your account passwords is over the top.. Unless it a corrections job or something but you should just be called out at random to log in with the boss and show some of the content

i can see why governments and public companies may want to make sure ppl arent crazy. i would be willing to log in in front of my boss to show w/e is needed. embarassing as hell but w/e. as far as giving up my password for them to do it - thats just completely not right in my opinion. china gvnt blocks fb and monitors ppl's emails and een makes edits at will. this is the start of the same direction. difference: theyre corrupt and communist, we're supposed to be free and fair. my ass

If that's the case maybe the CEO's and managers of any company give their FB password/and E-mail PW out to all employees coz what if your mangers is a crazy dude outside of work? Is for employee protection too........... if they are allow to monitior our activities outside of work we should be able too.

Although it doesn't bother me since I have so many FB and E-mail acct I can just give them one that I don't use at all.....

Unless I'm working for CSIS (which is Canada's intelligence agency), no organization has the right to my passwords.

Yeah, not happening, buddy. If my potential employer asks for it, it's time to look for another job.
