no, you can't store tires in a parkade, they're a hazard and increase the chances of theft on the property which can affect the strata corporations insurance premiums.

also you do not own that space, it is common property, just like how most strata's do not even allow you to store stuff on your own balcony as it becomes an eye sore. a storage locker is only $5000

How is it common property?

If it is, I can just park at any parking spot. Parking spot is designated to each unit. So that spot belongs to you.

Wrong - you don't own the parking spot. The only thing you own is the right to use that spot however the strata bylaws say that spot may be used. This is why the strata can say "you cannot park an unlicensed car in your spot" - if you OWNED the spot, nobody could tell you what to do with it. The same is true of putting your wheels and tires there. It is an eyesore, it makes the whole parkade a more attractive target to criminals, and it can be a fire hazard depending on the layout of your parkade. All in all it makes perfect sense that you don't get to store stuff there.

it is common property but the spot # is assigned to your condo unit, which enables you to tow anyone else who parks in it. in some strata's even your patio can be considered common property

^^ might as well buy new tires every year

My balcony looks like this

http://bccondos.net/images/images/im...=3479578&src=m

if I lay all four on the ground side by side like O O O O each one cover with black garbage bag

no one can really see what is in there or anything disturbing, besides i'm at the 7th floor.

perhaps I'll buy 4x plastic white beach chair to cover them haha

kgatz 03-09-2012 12:01 PM

yeah that's what i did. turned my old wheels into seats and had a table in the middle

busdriverman 03-09-2012 12:44 PM

dude how can your balcony not support all the weight of your tires and rims?

u can have 4 grown men on that thing and it wont be dangerous... dont you think that you underestimated the engineering of that balcony?

You bring 3 of your friends plus yourself, to the balcony, for couple of hours.

I'm leaving 4x steel winter tires from month March to Dec,
Jan Feb March leaving my Alloy All Seasons

so basicly 365 days I'll have less than 200 pound of weight on the balcony, compare just couple of hours with 3 or 4 adults. Its not the same :accepted:

Unless 3 of your friends and yourself sleep/eat/work 24/7 all on balcony

This ridiculous thread just got even dumber. Your balcony is concrete, your balcony does not wear out, break down, or in any way depreciate faster whether you have an empty balcony or 250lbs sitting on it 365 days per year. Your balcony is a structural component of your entire building, the difference between putting 150lbs on it or not is absolutely 100% immaterial. Think about it - lots of people, myself included, have a 75lb barbecue, some furniture, and often some people on our balconies. Have you EVER heard of a concrete balcony failing in BC? I haven't...

It's called Limited Common Property. Look it up.

dude just put the wheels on your balcony. Do you REALLY think a modern building's balcony can't handle the weight of four wheels/tires? It's not made of balsa wood.

I think that depends on the building? Mine seems to be titled, it was sold to me alongside the condo unit, it is mine to use or not use, and to rent as I wish. I'm sure there's some limitations, though they don't concern me at the moment (I'm just parking in it...). I know for a fact that they are not managed by the strata, they are tied to the condo unit at time of completion of construction by the developer, Onni.

For the OP: There's one guy in my condo that has a parking stall against the wall. He has had a set of wheels propped up against the wall for at least couple of months, and they haven't yet disappeared. I think it's safe to assume that either a: it's allowed, and/or b: no one either gave a damn or stole them.

Simply: Ask the onsite manager.

Oh, and also Volco does tire storage, I think it's around $100 a year? Some dealerships too. I'm not sure about you but I wouldn't let Canadian Tire anywhere near my car. Just think of the impact wrenches...
