RCMP: Text and seat belt check (Lougheed)

RCMP POLICE CELL PHONE TEXT MESSAGE & SEAT BELT CHECK AT WESTWOOD ST & LOUGHEED HWY FEB 22 2012 - YouTube

dayum sneaky.

see.lai 03-12-2012 10:57 AM

They actually do it like that? I always thought they would just be in the car/cycle.

i-VTEC 03-12-2012 10:58 AM

Caught a girl @ 2 Minute 10 Sec, if you wanna skip to there

Presto 03-12-2012 11:01 AM

I didn't see any RCMP there. Looks like one of those checks that are done to gather up data. In Langley, the cops usually station themselves on the corner of 200 Street and Willowbrook Drive, and you can tell they're cops, since they've got their marked vehicles, and their trademark yellow and black jackets. It's like fishing during the high season. They get at least one vehicle, every time traffic is stopped.

EDIT: nevermind.. watched some more, and the ones that get tagged are pulled over after the intersection. Turn right, instead. Problem solved? :troll:

Almost missed the hilarity :lawl:

Thus the reason why I try not to text EVER and if I have to answer a call, it goes on my lap on speaker.

car/cycle isn't as effective as this, even if it's an undercover car. plus, it distracts a cop from operating their own vehicle.

unfortunately, you'd still get busted for doing that.

They do that all the time on 64th in Langley in between 200th and 194th. They'll have a cop standing on the corner about 2 blocks before just like that who radios ahead for people on their phone. Everytime I drive by when there doing it they have so many people pulled over that they physically couldn't stop anymore without blocking the street.

I've seen it at least 4 or 5 times in the same spot over the last year.

Do one in Richmond at busy afternoon #3 Road, let see how many people get:smug: caught?

jackmeister 03-12-2012 12:17 PM

they do it near lansdowne station in richmond on no.3 road all the time on the weekends (either at lansdowne mall entrace or near boston pizza)

they're wearing the standard bright green/yellow jacket so you gotta be sms-ing like mad to not see them.

What if you say, you were singing along with the radio?

I'm not talking, I was just singing :alone:

fliptuner 03-12-2012 12:29 PM

Lol I was watching them do that last month. It was pretty funny actually. I mean you're at a stop light and the guy that's actually calling the cops on the other sides of the intersection is crouched down beside a BCHydro box in front of the Shell with his radio. It's pretty obvious what they're doing but I guess people are too focused on getting to their text than to observe their surroundings.

gars 03-12-2012 12:32 PM

I don't understand why more people don't use handsfree devices. Bluetooth headsets are dirt cheap nowadays....

That said, I know some people who can barely hold a conversation in person while driving, let alone trying to do it over the phone.... Distracted too easily.

cops catch you when you least expect it. just as you look down and press a button on your phone, even for a split second, you're good as caught. i don't think the singing reason will help, though it seems valid. they may even be able to look at your call logs to confirm it. trust me, they've heard every excuse.

I've seen them doing this a few times at Kingsway and Nelson catching a lot of people. Suprisingly also at Kincaid and Smith by Burnaby Hospital checking for texting/seatbelts and four way stopping.

Mr.JDM 03-12-2012 12:40 PM

yup seen them all up along kingsway in burnaby

hirevtuner 03-12-2012 01:25 PM

wingies 03-12-2012 02:05 PM

funny how I can never seem to see any cops doing this sort of traffic cellphone seatbelt check on rainy, windy, cold days. Seems to always coincidentally be on sunny days....hmmmm
