Emy Brochu, 20, died on Jan. 18 after her car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer in Victoriaville, Quebec.
Her boyfriend, Mathieu Fortin, says the two were texting before the crash, and he posted the private message to warn drivers "to think twice before texting and driving."
In their final messages to each other, at around 10:45 a.m., Fortin told Brochu that he loved her.
"I love you too and I'll try to make you happy," she replied, according to the page.
Fortin sent back a long string of "x's," a symbol for kisses.
"I have a meeting at 12:30 I would have liked to hear your beautiful voice before but ... we'll talk tonight." he wrote.
He never heard from her again.
TL : DR ?
"At what time is a text or an email more important than life itself? At what point is something on your phone more important than the people that you love?"
This thread is a good reminder that it isn't just against the law in BC, but dangerous too. So many people think it isn't a big deal, we need more awareness on this issue. I don't understand how I continue to see people use their phones while driving almost every day, and you can spot them from a mile away by their driving style too. You'd think this issue received enough attention in the media...

Did he know she was actually driving when texting her back. My sympathy takes a dive if he did. Posted via RS Mobile
Something my old N95 phone had and the "super amazing" iPhone STILL doesn't have, template messages that you can save and then reply immediately with one button. Always had one that said "I'm driving right now, not texting you back right away. Call me if it's important" and had the phone hooked up to a bluetooth headset while in the car.
I really can't understand why people can't grasp the idea that you probably shouldn't be trying to carry a text conversation with someone that is driving.

I think I can use Siri on my iPhone to just say "reply to Bill and tell him that I am driving and to call me if it is something important" but honestly, I don't even bother to read the message, let alone reply. It is a message, it can wait till I get where I am going.

I get tempted to hold the horn down when I see people holding phones talking/driving. If I hold my horn down both sides of the party know they are doing something wrong.
txting and driving kills 100s of quebec people every day, if you don't believe me, go to quebec and get someone to translate the news for you. I know this as one of my daughters middle names is in memory of a girl who decided txting and driving was a good idea.
don't txt and drive, or drive in quebec. 2 rules.... for your health
gonna be honest here, back when i had my old nokia i did it all the time consistently while driving... most of the time glancing here and there but i had most of it memorized. had a couple of close calls but it didnt stop me until i switched over to the iphone, now i wont even check messages, definitely curiousity isnt worth your life or someone elses
that being said im pretty sure most people who do text and drive wont be convinced to stop because it kills 100 people every year in quebec... its like smoking
what? hundreds every day, are you sure? so you saying on the average of 36500 ppl die from txting and driving...
it could be thousands, quebec uses a different language and i don't understand it very well.
from my few months spent there with the other family, the news shows kids txting and crashing, speeding and crashing, being french and crashing, using french roads and crashing etc.
I love the place, but every time the news hour comes on they show pictures of phones and wrecked cars, i make up the rest as I go on since i can't understand them.
at least they don't show pictures of over priced homes and 50 car pile ups in 1cm of snow

If something is really that important, a phone call will do. I hate people who drive and text. I'm pretty sure all of us are guilty of doing it at one point in time but it's not worth risking your life over it.
really? with swipe I can text a coherent message on my S2 withou actually looking at the screen. You need practice.
Does swype come with the GS2?
I only have the nexus s and I had to download it...
Awareness is great, but doesn't do much with these issues.
The ONLY reason my girlfriend doesn't text and drive any more is because she got a ticket. (An officier on a bike saw her phone on her lap and wrote her up, she wasn't even texting).
