Had an epic meal at Green Lettuce today. Was really, really good and portions were good also. Prices were very fair, and their desserts were awesome. I really liked the deep fried banana w/ Ice cream

I had sweet and sour chicken, manchurian chicken, garlic fish, green beans, spring rolls and the Deep friend Banana with ice cream. Was so good, my first time going there. Locations in Surrey and South Van. You guys need to check it out I think they call their food 'chinese style indian food' .. its really good.

Next time I go I am definitely trying their lettuce wraps and chow mein (which are amazing from what I hear).

2. Original Tandoori Kitchen - 2 locations: One on Fraser and one on Main (I think that one burned down?) Fraser location is new(er). You won't see it on Google Streetview in case you look for it.

3. Tandoori Kona - South west corner of Cambie & No. 5 Road in Richmond where the Shoppers Drug Mart is. Pro tip - get their take out as their portions are bigger than their dine-in.

Enjoy!
Was gonna post in here to write almost exactly the same thing!
Thank'd ya

If you order take out during lunch though, give them like 30 mins to make it

Went to Chutney Villa today for dinner (in my hipster neighbourhood of course.)

Ordered the following dishes:
  • Nandu Puttu - Tender crab tossed with coconut, roasted spices, and a hint of lime. This dish somehow reminds me of Vietnamese spring roll filling haha! Ask for an extra lime or two if you want that extra zing in this dish.
  • Fish Pakora - Deep fried fish with ginger, garlic paste and chilli powder. Light, fluffy batter with generous servings of fish. Best fish pakora I've had and not fried in old oil.
  • Paneer Curry (thali) - Paneer and vegetables cooked in a tamarind based curry sauce. Their paneer is SO light and not overwhelming - by far the best I've had!
  • Seafood Kothu Rotti - I can't explain this one but this was an awesome dish.
  • Various chutneys and sauces - Made fresh and I absolutely enjoyed all of them. You get an assortment of 2 savoury and 2 sweet chutneys. I don't remember which ones you get but one was a coconut curry chutney, the other I don't recall. The sweet ones were a tomato and apple chutney. So awesome! Two of our dishes came with other sauces and the yogurt sauce that came with the rotti and curry- the fucking BOMB!

The food was absolutely delicious. I haven't had southern Indian food before and this restaurant stood out. Service was somewhat sparse but expected. The owner is pretty fun and loves to chat about her food and share her stories. All the waitresses here spoke perfect English.

Food - 9/10. Read above. I docked one mark off because I personally felt that they held back on the use of spices. Don't get me wrong. The flavours are there but when they ask you which level of spiciness you want, a mild would be practically nothing. A medium would be mild, and a hot would be a medium and so forth. Why they do this, I don't know. Perhaps to cater to the local clientele? Regardless, I feel that they shouldn't hold back in the future. I was ready to sweat off my dinner and let my tongue dance.

Service - 7/10. Food took a while and they don't really check up on you often enough. I felt that they catered to some personal customers first as opposed to us second-class diners but whatever. Not a deal breaker for me.

Value - 10/10. Each item we ordered, we had to pack close to, if not more than half to go. Dinner was shared between myself and a lady friend.

Highly recommended if you're in the area and feeling adventerous. The parking sucks because it's paid street parking only and/or residential/business only. Typical Main Street scene. Ride your fixie or take the bus instead. Go in with an open mind and don't be afraid to inquire about their food. They are proud of it. Accepts cash, credit, and debit.

try mayura for lunch (buffet is better than any other place i've been to in Vancouver, think $14-15). Near boradway/granville
also india bistro, (haven't been thr for a while) bbq/tandoori chicken on sizzling plate was quite good. On Davie, around bute

you might also want to try Dosa, is south indian food. South indian food is primarily based on rice/lentils and coconut. thr's a place on kingsway /fraser i believe

i have yet to taste butter chicken that is remotely authentic in Vancouver/toronto. Most places make it quite sweet :S, also chicken needs to be bbq'ed before its put into butter chicken, not so anywhere here . Anybody knows good place for butter chicken?

Never heard that before.

You guys should checkout those Indian meat shops they sell marinated Butter and Tandoori chicken for cheap. Awesome on the BBQ.

manic, u ant brown enuff... jk..

just google authentic butter chicken. chicken needs to be prepared/marinated separately, (tandoori chicken is used most places) bbq'ed or grilled, then in the end mated with butter chicken sauce.

im heading to india next month, will take pics for u
