Oooh there's a new Crawfish place?... if it's anything like the Richmond store ... :denied:
I don't want to be the labrat again (what a waste of a dinner at Crawfish King Richmond), somebody else go and report back? :considered:

Cray Kitchen + Bar | Louisiana Seafood with a Twist
Time to get CRAY! | Vancity Buzz | Vancouver Blog

Place used to be Tempest Lounge like..less than 2 months ago. My thinking is that they [vietnamese owners] saw the gong show that Crawfish King was and decided to take the opportunity to do things better (hopefully, it's mainly the service imo..).

no vested interest, no bias, she just looked at those blogs and it wasn't even close whose blogs she would rather look at.

guess which ones got bookmarked, and which one didn't!

They said that being a local means I can't discover new things...well, I found a new restaurant in Richmond yesterday that was pretty damned good (especially if you enjoy garlic).

No one has written about it yet. Open at least since January.

Post tomorrow afternoon.

^ Other foods on the menu are sub-par and it's owned by the owners of Golden Oscar.

Obsideon 07-31-2012 03:19 PM

^ I've been wanting to go there!
I almost went last week but instead opted to try that new Crawfish place on Main street ... and regretting it ... it's not as bad as Crawfish King (service was definitely 100x better) but it was still overpriced and the fact that they loaded a bunch of empty shells into my Garlic Butter Clam bag with no meat didn't help ... also the Crawfish bag had way more CLAWS then tails in there ... :suspicious: ... paid over a hundred bucks and left hungry ...

Porschedog 07-31-2012 03:29 PM

^ Oh man, I just went there like 3 days ago. The Lotus Steamed Rice is delicious!

The only dish that somewhat saved the meal was the Cod Nuggets. they were really good, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The Deep Fried Oysters were SAD AS HELL ... looked like shrivelled up fried testicles ... and tasted really fishy ...
Also they charge for corn and sausages as well. Don't be fooled though, it says "3 pieces of corn" on the menu but it's literally only a 2 inch block of corn and we ordered 6 but I'm pretty sure we only got 4 pieces ... oh and the sausage is even more ridiculous, it's 6 pieces for $3.99 or something like that, but it's not even ONE sausage, it's almost 1 sausage CUT INTO 6 pieces!... so you get 6 sashimi-thin slices of sausage in your oily bag of shellfish.
Another note is that we found a whole lotta clam shells, but no clams ... we thought they must have fell out during the tossing and cooking process ... but nope, none were to be found in the bag either ... so we paid for a bunch of shells.
The oil level is not nearly as bad as Crawfish King so that's a positive, and the service was a billion times better... although it would be impossible to be any worse than them.

Worth a read, basically took the words out of my mouth and onto his blog:
Sherman's Food Adventures: Crawfish King

Grandmaster TSE 07-31-2012 10:54 PM

thanks bro, for saving me money and time going there

basically if i want seasoned boiled seafood, i'm heading to seattle for crabpot

and ed, theres this other place on no 3 road close to aberdeen that has that crab lotus leaf rice pot as well

Obsideon 07-31-2012 11:17 PM

^ ditto, as mediocre as Crab Pot is (especially for a chain franchise), at least it's got an decent standard to be followed. I've yet to find a "true" Southern Boil place yet.

Doesn't help that the first time my coworker tried this place he called in sick the next day with food poisoning.

Thanks for the tip, we're on location in Port Moody next week for filming. How do you say it in chinese? I'm chinese but super white-washed lol at Cindy's Palace, they have it on the picture menu, so we just pointed to it haha.
