Canadian tire or Kal Tire. They patch it twice form the inside. Price? Free.

so yeah. the tire is unrepairable and i'm out a whole shitload of money to get a replacement 19" potenza. had nothing to do with it being too close to the sidewall but basically because it was driven on while flat for an extended amount of time, it's unrepairable. the metal wires are showing on the inside

and before people start jumping on about me being an idiot for driving it extensively while flat: i figure it happened like this - i was around knight + 53rd last night at my friends place, and i figure that's where my tire was punctured. however it drove fine and nothing indicated there were any problems. i wasn't even listening to any music on the way home, yet heard nothing. drove back to richmond to another friends place (near ironwood, so quite a trek). upon leaving his house, that's when i discovered the tire was flat on one face, but still held air and was still stiff. so i drove it literally 2km to a gas station, blew it up to 40psi, and took the car home

That's shitty luck...
I had a nail practically go right into the corner of the sidewall and it was repairable.
None of the bigger shops would do it but found a smaller one and got it patched from the inside, tire is perfectly fine.

So when you noticed the tire, it wasn't flat? Maybe the tire wearing from the inside has to do with camber, and it may have just been a coincidence???

i didn't pay attention to the tire when i was leaving my friends place on knight but there was nothing out of the ordinary when driving it, whether at city speeds or highway speeds. upon leaving my second friends house, that's when i noticed it was flat. and i mean the tire was literally flat. i rolled it over and you could literally use the tire as a table to write on or something

what smaller shop did you go to?
and i have TPMS but it didn't alert me to anything until i started the car up to head home from the ironwood area - at which time i already knew something was wrong

Don't beat yourself up over it. When you have 19s it's not always easy to notice when a tire is losing air. Same thing happened to but they were 17s. My tire had a puncture and I had no idea. By the time I noticed it looked flat, it was too late. Tire was wrecked.

As far as getting a new tire, take a look on Craigslist and you might find a deal. That's where I found my replacement. Or pick it up from Bellingham to save some money.

Just FYI, Canadian models don't have TPMS

I'll see if I can get a quote for your tire in the meantime. You should check with some tire shops first, they are always cheaper

I'm guessing if the steel belt is showing on the inside it prevents the patch from adhering as well from the inside, at least well enough for shops to be able to confidently guarantee their work.

IMO there's no harm in trying a cheapo plug fix. I know they are supposed to be for temp fixes, but I have never had one fail and have done probably 5 different tires/locations and I have the utmost faith in the repair. If you've put the money down on a new tire already, oh well.

The sidewall also deforms if a tire is driven on flat. I've dealt with many flats that were driven on, and each time either the sidewall was perfectly worn in the middle, or had several uneven spots on the sidewall when I re-inflated the tire.

LoL, I drove with a slow leak because of a nail in my tire for over three weeks and it was still repairable... cheap Kumhos FTW.

Speaking of driving on flats, would letting the tire sit flat after driving on it a few km. result in cracks right where the tire is flat - contacting the ground?

I keep a little jumper pack in my vehicles with a built in air pump in case I have a flat away from a gas station. It is true that low profile tires are hard to tell that the pressure is low. Hell, I drove thru a big pothole that ripped a loonie sized hole in my tire, the sidewall and tire still looked like it had pressure in it.
