I read an article once written by a former professional criminal who after being released prison created a consulting specializing in security consulting, he said, a dog is more effective security than any home alarm. That he would never break into a home with any sign of a dog, because it creates to much trouble.

An alarm is easily defeated by someone who knows what they're doing, a well trained dog you need to fight and kill to defeat.

My place is well protected with alot of warning signs for the crooks, crackheads & hobos.I have one sign that says "beware of pitbull" and just below it,another sign that says "never mind the dog, beware of owner".One time I came pretty close to putting barb wire on the fence in the backyard, but I thought it over and it was overkill.

There are all different kinds of thieves, I think you guys are talking about petty thieves who try to break in when your not at home and steal some valuables and go.

The past few times I have been robbed Ive been at home and I am pretty sure they would just shoot my poor dog if I had one.

The only thieves that carry a gun while robbing a house are the ones who do growrips, unless you are growing weed in the house,99% of the thieves will not rob you at gun point unless it was planned out or they know you have something very valuable to them.

Can you go into further detail? What happened and what did you do?

i think overnight break in while sleeping is very rare now. Its the mid afternoon when the house is empty and everyone off to work.

Even if you have a monitored alarm, cop's come last, they have to call you first and property references. By that time, the thieves are long gone.

seriously. the unmistakable sound of a remmy 870 (or grizzly clone) chambering would send anyone running the other way.

Get APC alarm system. Support the chinese community and the company does a great job ensuring your home's safety too. Last time, someone opened the door by accident and the alarm went off, APC alarms called me to comfirm like in 1 minute. Very attentive.

We use Atlas, and I've been very pleased with their service. They're local, based in Vancouver so you don't have some redneck in Tennessee monitoring your house if something happens like with ADT.

A home security product made in China? :heckno:

In a month or two, when its broken, you can tell them what a great job they've done when you're done being raped by home invaders.

Talking from experience? Lol

Most thieves rob with a gun because #1 its sure scary than a knife #2 They can defend themselves if they get shot at.

And now I do not have a grow operation in my house. I just care for my families safety. Whoever is going to break in my house is getting shot or just shot at.

I guess people just want my massive porn collection?

my garage was just broken into last night.. they went through EVERYTHING including our cars. Took a bunch of power tools... tore through all our receipts.. stole my damn FM transmitter, and dumped our garage remote outside a block away. I normally lock the car doors when I come home.. but just didn't happen to do it last night... LOCK YOUR GARAGE DOORS PEOPLE.

donjalapeno 03-28-2012 09:09 AM

who needs home security when you got balls and a baseball bat.

Hot Karl 03-28-2012 09:45 AM

Dogs I got 2 of them. Seal team 6 couldnt get in without these furry alarms going off.

Actual security like bars and metal doors help far more. Monitored alarms don't mean shit. Police do not attend these calls unless you are enroute to meet them. Now think about that. You need to be within 5 mins of your house every waking moment to even have a small chance of catching/minimizing damage. There's no guarantee they actually arrive either. After a few false alarms police won't attend your property period for alarms. Like car alarms folks ignore these for hours. Worked as an bonded alarm guy for a bit
