Kitchen Remodelling

Anyone have a good recommendation/connection to kitchen planner/remodelling companies that can do work in New West?

Our kitchen needs a complete change (new cabinets/flooring/lighting). We already have a contractor that is doing the flooring, but we need someone to design and pick our cabinet and countertop.

Any big retailer can design it for you (home depot, ikea, etc)
There are a bunch of smaller places in north burnaby that do the same thing.
All you have to do is basically google search and pick a brand.

What are you looking for? Custom made cabinets or something like Home Depot would order for you? My mom did her kitchen probably 2 years ago, she had everything made it turned out really nice. It wasn't cheap but if this is the quality of work you're looking for I can find out who she used. This is a terrible picture, it has to be seen in person to see the detail. Like anything you can spend as much or as little as you want.

Quasi, thats the look we are kinda looking for. The cabinets in our kitchen are getting worn and so are the sink/fridge etc....

We hope to get someone that can do all the planning/work with our contractor. (he speaks mandarin so he prefers someone that can speak it too).

Home Depot, Ikea cabinets and the like are alright if you're doing a budget reno, like a basement suite or in a lower value property. If it's a home in a nice area, it's just dated, I would not suggest someone use that grade of cabinet.

By the looks of the work, he seems like a good well rounded trades person, but a contractor who does their own electrical and plumbing is a liability to a homeowner, imho. Anything more significant than very basic electrical and plumbing should be done by a contractor licensed in that specific trade however, it took those trades five years to learn their trade for a reason. On the back of the hoody he's wearing it clearly says, electrical and plumbing, you also say, he does everything himself.

do you live in a big house, is it a smaller space ?
you prefer a simplified ikea kitchen or something full blown and custom made ?

Here's an example of my dad's work, basically he did everything from scratch, all in one contractor type... as you can see these are Ikea kitchens, and they can look pretty damn good when put together nicely, so I just wanted to show you that a kitchen can look nice and doesn't have to be fully custom made

before and afters, this used to be garage that we completely renovated into living quarters

and here's an example of a much smaller apartment size setup we did in New West actually

ideally i agree with what you say. the problem is that the general home owner does not really care of the quality of workmanship in plumbing & electrical IMO. as long as the water runs and the switch turns the light on & off they are happy. though poor workmanship in either area can cause a lot of damage/problems. i know from personal experience that something as simple as a poor electrical splice can cause a REALLY big headache down the road.

That looks ridiculously good. My kitchen has the same basic plan. Would love to know who your mom used and how much it cost. I assume she had everything redone including hardwood floors? Any more picture?!

G-spec:

Nicely designed! How much did it cost for all the work? Possible to break it down? I'm thinking of digging out my basement/garage and would be looking for very similar work.

I worked at home depot in the kitchen department.
When we designed kitchens for customers, they had a choice between 5-9 different brands which had 10-30 different styles.
I've done 10k kitchens and 60k kitchens.
Home Depot does carry real solid wood kitchen cabinets which cost $$$$.
So I wouldn't go as far as calling it a budget build.

I would, I worked there too.

Even the solid wood cabinets that Home Depot offers really aren't great quality in comparison to ones made by a good local custom shop.

From years of experience, if I or my dad's guys had to choose a custom built from Home Depot or a pre built setup from Ikea, Ikea wins every time...
He was using HD kitchens before until Ikea really stepped their game up with their new designs and materials over 5 years ago roughly.

Ah sorry both these projects were few years ago, dont really remember enough to break it down, but the smaller kitchen project there i vaguely remember it being between 5 and 7 g's, there was more work involved though not just the kitchen itself... but that garage kitchen I'm not sure what the kitchen portion alone was worth since we redid the whole thing it was a big ass project

before n after, it was stripped down to it's bare bones and reinforced

^ yea Ikea has this kitchen software program that's really neat, some of the kitchens he does are full custom, but he loves doing Ikea kitchens because of the simplicity and customers love it cuz it looks expensive but the save quite a bit of money too
