people actually drink and watch movies? whats the fun in that?

fetched 04-11-2012 08:19 PM

Most of you worry too much, there aren't going to be more retards than there already are. Anyone you know get completely wasted when watching a movie at home? Probably not. The likely scenario would just be 1 or 2 beers factoring in the markup and the DD regulations. There are no regulations that will stop drunk retards anyways, why should the rest of us be denied of having a beer?

Theatres in Europe have been serving alcohol for the longest time. I haven't seen or heard of riots breaking out. What is the problem?

SkinnyPupp 04-12-2012 05:27 AM

As if people weren't obnoxious enough at theatres :rukidding:

well expect drunk douchebags @ the movies too now

Just takes a few, I'll avoid the theaters that serve alcohol like the plague and opt for the show that is playing where it isn't served. Most people would be fine, I'm picturing the 1 or 2 idiots who think getting shittered and being obnoxious at a movie seems like a fun night.

While I agree with you, alcohol has been a major proponent to European social life for hundreds, if not, thousands of years.

It's not quite the same here in North America, unfortunately.

The theatre you're talking about is the Rio. And you're right - they were fighting to get a liquor license for the longest time. They had a unique circumstance in which allowed them to double up as a live performance venue for bands and stand-up comedy.

Because of their unique situation, it was a double-edged sword where no precedent was ever set for such an establishment. The owner of the theater cited that they were struggling to stay in business due to the fact that they had no other source of revenue other than ticket fares and the typical movie theatre popcorn and concession. The owner(s) believed selling alcohol would allow them to increase revenues.

At least we know the Hipster, Granola-munching demographic makes up their booze-drinking patronage. :fuckthatshit:

Don't hate on the Rio. They're one of the only cult film theaters in this city. I love going to see older movies there. The crowd is more entertaining then the movie. Once I heard that they were getting denied privileges to show films because of this stupid law I went to their website and they suggested people to email a provincial legislator or some shit. I thought it was useless at first but emailed anyway. 2 weeks later I got a very in detail email from this provincial legislator and I felt like I kind of made a difference. Then now this happens. Glad to see that I was part of change. Now if only translink listens to my request then I will be satisfied as a helper for the people who seek change.

I had drinks before going to watch spiderman 3 when it was in theatre.

Watching upcoming trailers->:pokerface:

Booze taking effect in the opening credits -> :drunk:

Trying to figure out what was going on in the movie -> :suspicious:

i can see more violence happening at the theatres lol
personally i've witnessed 2 fights go down, both stemmed from seating related issues

Everymans 04-13-2012 04:51 PM

I don't think a theater is a place worth getting wasted at in the first place. You pay 12$ just to see the movie. Why would you wanna go out of the movie to get a 6$ beer and miss 15 minutes of the flick? You could probably grab 2 beers max during the entire movie. No one on this planet(outside of tiny asian girls) can get angry drunk off 2 beers.
