private insurance

I dont know if anyone has posted this but i did a search and nothing came out. Just trying to help local bike riders. Private insurance rules have changed! its no longer 10 years of driving , it is now 5! years. I went through beacon for comp, and collision and i paid 425$ for the full year and that includes storage when you take your bike off the road. You do need to get plates and lib. through icbc but with my 5 % discount it was 98 bucks a month . They do have a application form on there website or just go into one of the local insurance branches and see if your accepted. icbc for comp, collision and plates quoted me 230$ a month for a 600 :O . 425$ a year , theres no excuse not to get theft on your bike !!!!

Gh0stRider 04-25-2012 06:59 AM

got mine last year. This yr its 350 for me.

CharlieH 04-25-2012 08:01 AM

could try beacon for collision and comprehensive. need to have a clean history though. i'm at 40% discount but they wouldn't insure me because of my previous driving suspensions :(

MaGNuM16 04-25-2012 08:38 AM

Ya I was shocked I got accepted considering I had a at fault accident writing off 24 grand and a driving with undue care and attention ticket lol .

Private is the best way to go (if you qualify) for collision/comprehensive.

I pay $275 with $500 deductible (or $248 with $1000 deductible) for the year through Megson Fitzpatrick on a 900cc. Beacon quoted me $325 for the year.

IIRC it is harder to qualify for MF than Beacon because they require you to have 10 years of driving experience, but I could be wrong. Best to call MF directly or Cassells Insurance (for Beacon) to ask for a quote.

CharlieH 04-25-2012 01:36 PM

lol omg...

i'm paying $220 a month with a 40% discount for just liability and comprehensive

Raid3n 04-25-2012 01:44 PM

i was paying 125/mth for my 93 gsxr750 i think. liability and comprehensive from icbc.

65/th for my 78 gs400 with the same coverage

rk604 04-25-2012 04:01 PM

paid $9xx for 6months icbc and whole year w/ private. break down was 4xx icbc basic + 460 private

MaGNuM16 04-25-2012 04:43 PM

i personally just insure it for the year and cancel at the end of riding season makes the monthly payments even cheaper than 6 months of insurance.

stewie 04-25-2012 05:28 PM

i just got mine through beacon this year for the first time...the cost from icbc + beacon is 800$ for the year...compared to last year when i went through just icbc...it was 10x more then that...

rk604 04-25-2012 05:39 PM

i realized that afterwards...cause now i'll have to insure for sept and oct...

I insured thru MegsonFitzpatrick this year. Whole yr coll/comp = 450$ thats for my 09 daytona675. I've had suspension before, but their online application only asks for previous 5 yrs of offences. And you only need 5yrs driving exp i believe. However, it does ask you how many yrs riding exp you have, as well.

Insured through Beacon this year as well, tried to go through Coast Capital but got denied due to my one 24 hour suspension.

BinsentoW 05-06-2012 02:08 PM

Where do you go to insure through beacon, ect? Do you fill out a form and mail it in, or is there a faster way?

Klobbersaurus 05-06-2012 02:20 PM

i went to cassells insurance on cambie and broadway, beside the skytrain

Gh0stRider 05-06-2012 02:45 PM

fill out form and insurance agent will fax it to them

Gwilo 05-07-2012 05:41 PM

I'm with Cassell and pay $ 325.00

ICBC part is over $ 1300/yr and that is with a 42% discount.

i went to the guys office on boundary road and first ave, beside the harley dealership. was in and out in 15 minutes.

josel_atr 05-07-2012 10:38 PM

i paid one time 325 for beacon and 67/month to icbc for 1m liability. i dont think i have collision tho. 2003 r6 declared at 3500. monthly payment ends when i cancel at the end of the season but beacon stays on as a storage policy.

amount of what you pay has different factors tho.

i went to the autoplan called comprehensive insurance on canada way and smith in burnaby. if you're in the area, look for ian. its a pretty chill autoplan office. very helpful and non rushed. he make sure you understand what you are paying for at the lowest amount possible.

sorry guys. Can someone please educate me?

Basic insurance we have to go via ICBC right?
Then anything such as collision and liability and comprehensive that's where you go Beacon right?

Yup.... I go to cassells insurance on broadway. She will do the ICBC part of it for you and the beacon all at once. Also your beacon insurance will act as storage insurance during the winter.

Raid3n 05-08-2012 11:30 PM

^ i think i might go get a quote, whats the address for this 'cassells'?

hillmar 05-09-2012 11:28 AM

454 West Broadway (at Cambie)
Vancouver call - 604-876-0126

dink 05-10-2012 10:04 AM

Just a rough number for you guys for my 07 cbr600rr
*I paid for entire year*

basic ($200,000) - $1082
w/ 1 mil - $1202 (so $120 additional)

i have 40% discount and i bought 1 mil, that works out to $720 for the year.

I have yet to buy comm and collision

MaGNuM16 05-10-2012 10:21 AM

After having my last bike stolen , theft was the first insurance I got on my new bike . Also disc lock with alarm , Scorpio alarm with all extras and a hEavy duty chain for home . Taking no chances lol .
