SkinnyPupp and I ate raw chicken when we were in Japan, something I wouldn't try in North America but is perfectly safe in Tokyo. And I've eaten frog before. Not quite that...fresh but it's pretty good if prepared properly. I'd eat this no problem...I might ask that the head not stare at me, though. I've eaten plenty of seafood that's still "alive". I had lobster sashimi where the lobster just looks at you funny the whole time. It's not alive...it's just involuntary nerve movement. ...although that one frog looks like he's freakin' out. |
Why does everyone think it's alive? Moving =/= alive. The chef ripped its head off right off the bat and removed all its guts. It's creepy as hell but it's not alive. |
woah that Japanese chick has straight teeth :ahwow: |

What's with the choice of song... :lol |
aahhhhh that is messed up but i can't say i wouldn't try it. no fucks were given by the chef as he skinned the frog. |

not that messed up imo. it's like having live shrimp for hot pot and watching in squirm and kick around when you boil it :/ i'd definitely like to go to asadachi in japan and try some beating frog heart lol |
oh gooodness. Felt like barfing when I saw the frog squirming around on the plate. UGH!!! |
Holy fuck! That girl is a freak! |
the frog is actually dead...he did already remove the insides from the beginning when he beheaded the frog. Its just muscle reflexes, as it happens a few mins to a few hours after with raw frog meat. Happens when you pour some salt on frogs legs too. |
check this one out if you guys think thats disgusting. Live Peeled Frogs - YouTube lol |
Same idea with this: |
Fortunately, I watched the video of that nasty frog salad before having lunch today so that I don't run the risk of puking. That's messed up! This is the exotic meat that I saw in Beijing a couple years ago. -definitely won't see this at the night market here: |

When they showed it on a national TV broadcast in Japan, I had a few people messaging me to ask if Canadians really do that. Needless to say, in the same way most of you now think live frogs are a popular/common Japanese dish, they think Canadians are sucking on dead human toes in their beverages. |
Frog Sashimi |
People understand that the frog isn't actually "alive", right? It's just nerves. Hell, that shit happens to YOU when you die. The fact that it's moving is just testament to it's freshness...but I don't see it as any different than the meat that we buy at the supermarket apart from the fact that that meat has been sitting in a fridge for a few days rather than straight from the animal still warm. I don't think it's cruel. It's WEIRD but not cruel. It was killed with a knife to the back of the head. After that, it was just butchered like any other meat. That's how food gets to the table...things have to die. That steak on your table wasn't brought to your table dry aged 28 days on the back of a unicorn...it was cut out of the side of a cow that was shocked with an electric charge and then it's throat was probably slit. |
Those scorpions, on the other hand, are probably still alive but who the fuck cares about mistreating insects and whatever. Spiders have been invading our homes for years...none of us think twice about smashing them with a magazine. No one is going to cry over some skewered scorpions. |
I might be mistaken, but I think I read that insects can't even feel pain. Or it's like some debatable study. Either way, if my food is moving, I'm grossed out. |
