Silencer in or out?

For those of you with aftermarket exhausts, do you ride with the silencer in or out?
If out, any issues with cops/tickets?

I find without a silencer anything over 5k rpm is quite loud for city riding

I used to get complaints all the time from my neighbours when I worked an early morning shift. The bike fired up at 4am everyday, and there was no mistaking I was going to work.
