Knox Mountain Hillclimb 2012

The annual Knox Mountain Hillclimb is this weekend (May 19/20)!!! The hillclimb tests cars and drivers on a paved road course of ten major turns, climbing 800 vertical feet over 2.2 miles.

As usual the event is supported by a bunch of local and not so local racers. I've been up to watch a few times and there has always been a great group of cars and drivers.

I've heard this year is the John "King of the Hill" Haftner's last year and he's going for the record again, definitely something not to be missed!

One of John's amazing runs:

Anyone else plan to spectate this weekend?

I used to go every year when I was living in Kelowna but I haven't been in a few years now. It's a well worth a trip up from the coast though.

This might be John's last year in his current car.

Heard through the grapevine that he is building a new A-mod car with a big snow mobile engine.

I'll be up taking photos, probably both days

I'm thinking about setting up around the exit of T7 once we do a pit walk through.

Where is everyone else planning to watch from?

Hmmm. I want to try and catch this again this year. Last year was great to see. Turn 3 is my favorite vantage point .

Man, I miss not being out there this year. If I see the SP3 cars go slower than I did last year I'll be sad.

Looks like a good turn out in my class this year. Also looks like I would have placed second going on last years time. Too bad I couldn't make it out this year.

Interesting that they allowed a Miata to run without it's top. It's against the rules, and I was scolded for driving DOWN the mountain after a run up with my top off. Looks like someone wasn't paying attention.

he lost his oil line on his turbo just before corner 5 as well and lit on fire..

edit,
how does that work Aaron? the super 7s and dwarfs run with no top.

GT cars with full GT cages can run without a top from what I understand. His car is SP3, and that is not a GT spec cage. From the photo, his car dosen't even looks SP legal with the stripped interior and what I'm going to assume removed windows to allow for the door bars (a requirement on Miatas to run a full cage). Either way, even if I was allowed to run without it I wouldn't. It's much safer running with the top and helps aero/top speed quite significantly.

I am having the day after regrets for not going this year. I'm quite confitent I would have run a high 1:50's with the 70whp more and Hoosiers/aero this year had I gone.
