Floorjacks, do they need maintenance?

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right area.

I have a floor jack I bought in the early 90s, it's working fine but worried it'll eventually fail. I use jack stands when working under my car but I don't want it to give out one day.

I assume they need servicing. Has anyone here serviced their floor jack? Where would I take it for servicing?

Thanks.

Is it leaking oil? If not, leave it. I never depend on a floor jack to hold up weight while I'm underneath the car.

Not leaking, no issues. Just worried it'll give out any day now. Ya, I always use jack stands when underneath.

I got a Mastercraft jack stand flexed and collapsed once.. after that every pair of stand I have I weld a 1/4 plate to each foot.. just in case.

Define "working fine".. have you tightened the nuts recently etc?

Yup. I applied a bit too much torque on the breaker bar and the weight shifted.

While not as bad, but I had my car up on jack stands while the car was parked on ashphalt on a hot summer day.

Same thing with my old F4i while it was parked on an ashphalt lot in the summer.

As far as maintenance goes, just make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight. If there is no oil leak, then you are good to go.

If you really feel uncomfortable, throw it out and buy a new one. Whats $100 for piece of mind.

I just use it till it fails though.

Ya, ~$100 is worth the investment; another one should last me for many many years.

You probably need new seals for the pistons, which can be hard to find.
