Someone stealing manhole covers in alleys

Becareful when you drive in the alleys on the west side (granville street), someone just stole all the manhole covers (casting).

R&R 06-05-2012 08:20 PM

Someone has WAY too much time on their hands

vafanculo 06-05-2012 08:26 PM

Teeneaged mutant ninja turtles

ShadowBun 06-05-2012 08:26 PM

Recon604 06-05-2012 08:28 PM

they gonna melt it down and sell it

MindBomber 06-05-2012 08:29 PM

Seriously, no one steals manhole covers out of boredom or to actually put them to use.

They want the scrap metal.

:failed:

Gnomes 06-05-2012 08:29 PM

Scrap metal junkyards. I think i recall the junkyard pepople tried to sell me back my stolen aluminum gate for $4 per pound. Gate is about 10lbs so $40. Those manhole covers are quite heavy, large profit at city's expense.

just hope this doesnt happen..

JSALES 06-05-2012 09:16 PM

that's fucking dangerous, hope no one drives through the alleys

Harvey Specter 06-05-2012 09:43 PM

Couldn't you sue the city for damages if you hit a uncovered manhole? And if you know the location, call the city's hotline and report the location so they can have crews out there with replacements.

Redlines_Daily 06-05-2012 10:19 PM

^great job! looking out for your fellow man

Hondaracer 06-05-2012 10:57 PM

are they the round ones or the rectangle ones?

if they are the rectangle ones kids probably just lifted them out and dropped them down the drain

Gridlock 06-06-2012 08:03 AM

Yes, they are heavy, but they are just iron which has the lowest scrap metal value. I don't even bother with taking things in that are iron...not worth the effort.

Now the extra 500 I made selling the old copper pipes from bathroom renos I did was totally worth it-although I think that's where I picked up the nail in my tire.

Pooface55 06-06-2012 09:01 AM

Good on you OP. That is a scary looking accident.

Great to see the pedestrians/strangers coming to the aid of the driver unlike other crash videos we've been seeing lately.

FerrariEnzo 06-06-2012 09:21 AM

First manhole covers, then

melloman 06-06-2012 09:24 AM

1) It's an old video, not really funny anymore and very played out.
2) It's about a rapist, last I checked rapists don't steal manhole covers to have sex with the drain holes forcibly.
3) Why abuse the multimedia abilities of this forum to link to such old, boring garbage.
4) How does one go from stealing pot hole covers to raping people? I guess you could make the argument that rape and stealing man hole covers is both forcibly uncovering holes for entry, however I digress.

I am quite upset with your post.

Culverin 06-06-2012 11:46 AM

I'm on 2 wheels. If I hit one, I'd be in big trouble.
Quite possible if I was night riding.

tonyvu 06-06-2012 12:21 PM

pretty sure no one is gonna steal a manhole cover for fun... its heavy as fuck lol

tiger_handheld 06-06-2012 12:30 PM

get your tin foil hats ready...

maybe the contractor who is responsible for vancouver man-hole covers sent an agent to remove them. thus getting a new contract to replace the "stolen" covers.

/conspiracy theory

Yodamaster 06-06-2012 02:03 PM

The price of steel is going up, and considering that manhole covers are inch thick hunks of steel...

You get the point.

godwin 06-06-2012 02:29 PM

Usually they are not make out of steel.. just plain iron. There is a glut of steel in the market right now, and prices are going down due to slow down in China.
