buying future shop / best buy gift card on craigslist

Any one done this before ?

is it pretty safe as long as the card is not scratched?

I've heard story someone bought the gift card on craigslist
meet up at future shop, confirmed thecard is good
the buyer pays
then the seller use the gift card online

the gift card must be scratch for that story to happen I am thinking?

i'd only do it for an in store purchase and meet to buy right away

otherwise, with the seller present, you can maybe get a $20 gift card, then ask customer service to combine both cards balance into one. that way you know it's good for a future purchase.

I would only do it in-store, and i would transfer the balance to a new card immediately.

That or just buy it through Buy, Sell & Exchange Discount Gift Cards for 100+ Brands | Cardswap.ca. You won't save as much, but at least it's from a reputable business.

I've personally bought around $1k worth of cards from them. No problems.

There is some risk involving GC... for example, if a dude bought $500 card with stolen CC, when CC company issue a chargeback, the GC gets invalidated. And it does not matter how many GC you transfer on, they will get canceled (happened to one of my buddy).

So, my recommendation is, only buy them if you alrdy have sth in mind to buy. Thus, meet the seller in the store, buy your shit right away and then pay the seller.

I did it with my original iPad purchase, got a sweet deal on it (I think the dude sold me something like $37x.xx for $225.)

Yeah I would only do it if I were buying something immediately.
