i would imagine/hope it would be accurate considering they bought it from companies that had quite a bit of experience one of the companies that dagonay mentioned was doing mapping for govt organizations |
It still doesn't make sense to spend billions and years building infrastructure, when such a perfect solution already exists :fulloffuck: All that money could have been spent doing something innovative... But instead they say "we can finally do turn by turn directions!" even though they always could, and actually have with a $15 app nobody bought. :fulloffuck: Oh but their laptops have USB ports now! :fuckthatshit: |

Have you turned into an Apple moron? They don't need to release a "retina version"... "Retina Display' doesn't mean anything other than "high resolution". When was the last time a computer application had to be upgraded for high resolution displays? Sometimes they may need to rearrange the UI a bit to accommodate, but that's it. :rukidding: Ronin, I am disappoint. |
I'm excited for Facetime over 3G. |
gf going to hunt me down , no likey |

The difference between this and desktop displays is that our screens have gotten a heck of a lot bigger on our desks. Basically everything needs to be made higher resolution but no bigger. It's a change in native resolution. It's like comparing printers with different DPIs. You're going higher resolution but not necessarily "bigger". Here...explained by some photoshop magazine. Quote:

The OS will scale everything for you. The res is 16:10 so all they have to do is double up the pixels. Whoever wrote for that photoshop magazine is an idiot Ipad is different because graphical elements need to be re-rendered. Scaling graphics doesn't look good. Things like text can be rendered on the fly, so works fine. Come on man, you used to know all this kind of stuff when you wrote on my site... Is it really true that being an Apple user makes people unaware? |
Oh shit.. Turn by turn and flyover isn't available for iPhone4. That's retarded. |

I imagine it looks better as a natively supported resolution. I'm sure they could double up pixels and it would look just fine but that's probably the same as upscaling a DVD. It'll still look better if it was done by the developer with that resolution at that size in mind rather than being done on the fly by the OS in a version with half the "real" pixels. I realize it's just the icons, buttons and other crap like that but hey, I'm sure retina display support will be a free update just like iPad users didn't pay more when they went from an iPad to an iPad 2 so what's the big deal? And I'm pretty sure Premier and Final Cut won't let me watch 1080p in native resolution without going into full screen like I see on the screenshots with the MBP. It's little things like that. Not important but I'm sure it won't cost anything and it makes the extra resolution useful. Even if the retina graphics weren't on it, I'd still buy the new one for the thinner design (at a lower price of course). My MBP is about to turn 5. |

I give up. You are officially an Apple Sheep. Enjoy your RETINA Edit I feel really bad about calling you a moron. I respect you and I know you're not dumb. But when it comes to this.. sorry, you are ignoring the facts and buying straight into marketing. I'll change it to APPLE SHEEP. |

However, the iPhone turnover cycle is quick enough that I don't really care. By the time new features come out that I really want, it's time to switch phones. I went from original iPhone to 3G to 4 so by the time 5 is out, it'll be 2 years, about time my iPhone 4 needs replacing. |

Well, what if not all four pixels were intended to be the same then? Wouldn't a higher resolution allow for finer adjustments? Quote:
If there's something I'm not getting, then point it out. But I see a difference between MY iPad 1 and the new iPad which has a stupid high resolution running the same shit. I look at that screen with a microscope and I see the pixels are smaller. If pixel doubling gives me this... XX XX for every X on a 1440x900 screen...then what if I wanted those pixels to be... XX 00 or X0 0X I'm SURE the scaling algorithm or whatever can correct this to an extent but tell me how it does it better than just if someone uploads a much higher resolution update. |

When you open a program like Apeture, it's not like the window elements are static pixels that are displayed. Everything is rendered right there for you. A DVD is 640x480 or whatever DVDs are, they are static images that need to be enlarged, and obviously you can't add to the image when it gets bigger. But with graphical interface elements, you DO add to the image that is rendered. So text, menus, interface elements, are all scaled depending on the resolution. It's not like they have a version of the software that works on 1024x768 displays, and had to release a version for 1366x768 and another for 1920x1080. You know what I mean? For your photography, the high res makes a lot of sense (but the small screen kind of defeats it IMO) so I don't begrudge you for wanting to take that upgrade path. But to hear Apple Speak coming from you is disappointing, especially when the facts are something that you used to know about and be interested in. |

The rest is like what I said...features that will be added due to the higher resolution...and I have no idea what they are but there are possibilities. For example, 1080p in the edit window. And the thing will be able to display almost HALF the pixels of a picture taken with my 5D! :lol Also...IPS! After going from a TN panel to a Dell U2412, which is a hella cheap IPS screen too, the difference is noticeable. |
Instead of iOS 6 it should have been 5.5 or something. Siri can now tell you sports scores but won't know what the fuck you're talking about if you say turn on wifi...guess that will be the revolutionary iOS 7 feature. They must hate google with a passion to blow all this money on maps that most likely won't be anywhere as good |
LOL Diablo 3 updated for 2880x1800. |
Ronin is right. Retina is not high resolution as Skinny stated. It's high PPI and this is where the problems arise. It's not an issue of scaling. It's an issue of having interface elements that are sized appropriately for existing low PPI displays and having those elements appear at the wrong size on a high PPI display. Yes we've had high resolution displays (like 27" 2500x1600 monitors). But we haven't had high resolution crammed into a smaller display. You might have an interface element (say a group of sliders to adjust hue, saturation and luminance). These sliders were sized by the developer to appear around 1" long so they are easy to select and drag with a mouse by the user. What happens to these sliders when you take that same 2500x1600 resolution on a 27" display and shrink it to a 13.5" display? Do you think those sliders will remain at the same 1" size? Of course not - they will have shrunk down to half their original size making them less usable. In fact, everything on the screen will now appear at half the size. So the developer will have to re-think their interface and controls to make it usable on a smaller screen. Both Adobe and Autodesk (for example) have already stated they are re-writing software for the new Mackbook Pro. When they release the new versions we'll be able to see the reviews showing the new versions compared to the existing ones and see exactly what they did. I doubt Adobe is going to modify an App simply because they are "blinded" by Apple marketing. BTW, Windows 7 is horrible for how it handles high PPI displays (just ask any developer, or if you want to make your brain hurt just go to Microsoft and read their technical papers on writing software for different PPI displays). Microsoft has made significant changes to Windows 8 to handle these issues as they are expecting Win 8 tablets and laptops to also be using "retina" displays (so is Intel with their Ultrabook initiative). Microsoft is well aware of current problems with Win 7 and how they would be magnified with the new high PPI displays. Which is why they're correcting the problem with Win 8. |
Interface elements can be scaled. Those sliders shrunk to a smaller screen stay the same when they are scaled. Adobe is modifying software to sell their products using the Retina marketing. They're not blinded by it, they are smartly using it for people like you and Ronin. Otherwise people will go "maybe I should switch to Apeture, since it has a Retina label". I've seen that before! ;) OSX scales well, Windows does not, this is not new information. |
fuck me i didn't realize there was a thread on iOS6 already. Here I was posting in the iOS5 thread like an idiot and wondering why it's so empty. No turn-by-turn and flyover for ip4 is such bs. The hardware can easily support it. Damn you Apple! Anyways I like all the improvements to iOS but it's still missing the ground breaking addition that we keep expecting. Are they EVER gonna bring widgets??? YouTube is 5 years outdated come on! But I guess I should expect that since YouTube is owned by the competition. Blah. I like the look and smoothness of iOS and the better apps but damn...I think I'm gonna have to switch to Android. |

It isn't cool enough that I would pay money for. Like if they said "Hey, pay $10 for this one feature..." I'd tell them to go fuck themselves but I'm sure such a thing would be a free update for MBP owners...so if I had to choose between platforms, I'd go for the one that does the job just as well but has a cool, useful feature that takes advantage of a high resolution screen. |

Unless the iPhone 5 has something really cool, I'll probably buy a Samsung by the end of the year. Maybe just for one phone cycle (like maybe the iPhone 6 is awesome...YOU DON'T KNOW!) I could go Android and give it a try. Or fuck me, maybe Windows phone. I love the OS but there's just no one else that I know uses it so the exclusive software is pretty boring. |
