| Am I fucked?
Im currently attending Langara first year in the accounting diploma but I really want to work at the Big 4 just for experience. I realize they recruit heavily from UBC,SFU but I dont have the math grades to gain entry. I fucked up really bad in highschool and barely passed grade 11 math. Looking back I have no idea why I struggled but I did. Looking at these math requirements makes me shit my pants. I would have to do 5 math courses to get to where I need to be. So am I fucked, or am I fucked?

ur in college now.. u should know what to do. If u really want to work at the Big 4 and the requirements are to take 5 math courses. Then you just got to work hard in Langara. Get a math tutor if u need help.
If you give up, your fcked. Study hard everyday, you wont be fcked.

Take the Math Diagnostics Test (MDT) at Langara. Costs you some money to take it as it is an extra, can't remember exactly how much. I think it's only based on grade 11/12 material. You will get a score on the test and it will allow you to skip all the lower math levels, MATH1150, 1152, 1170, etc providing you do well.

That's what I did, i messed up greatly in highschool, worked my ass off in 2 weeks, took the MDT at Langara, was allowed to take Math1174 right the way, and saved me from all the lower math courses. Looking back tho, would I recommend it? Probably not, because chances are, you'll struggle in the Math1174 anyways, and it would mess up you're overall GPA if you're looking to gain entry into UBC or SFU

I guess math requirements changed from when I graduated highschool in 2005.
I had a C for math 11 and C- for math 12
Got into Kwantlen's accounting program.
Had the option to transfer to SFU after 2 years, but found out that I had to re-take 2nd level accounting classes at SFU , because they would not give me credit for the ones from Kwantlen (3310/3410 - intermediate financial and intermediate cost).
Forget wasting more money/time. Stuck it out at kwantlen, and the rest is history.

^ Transfering to SFU from college is a pain. They actually deduct .25 from your gpa when applying for beedle and at Langara, they scale their grades up. Meaning that A- is 85 and B+ is 80 and etc. I took a marketing class at Langara that was equivalent to bus343 but they only give credit as bus 1xx and exemption for bus 343 (no credit as 343 as i desperately need an upper div course). Which is why im going back to Langara to complete my BBA.
My advice: Take it nice and slow. Take math seriously and study your ass off.
If you're xferring to SFU, take all the prerequisities for math 1174, but take math 174 at SFU since SFU will scale your entry by .25. If you take math 1174 at Langara, you'd need a B+ not to suffer. Pay attention to the core courses and get B+ on all of them. B+ = 3.33 but it gets scaled down to 3.00. When your cores courses are at 3.33 minus math 1174. Xfer to SFU and try to get a B in math 174 and then xfer to beedle.
Risky route: I'm not sure if this method works, so other can chime in. Join extracurricular clubs, put minimum effort into them. Make sure you're known. e.g. Langara Accounting Club (if it exists ><). Maintain a 3.00 GPA and extracurriculars. I am working under the assumption that UBC looks at extra curriculars and a modest GPA. I also do not think UBC scales grades back like SFU.
