I could not agree with this more. AV is a good coach, but not a cup winning coach.

Very few coaches have either an the cup, or came within one game of winning the cup... AV is in the latter group. I guess e team coached themselves for that run?

That's because Hamhuis is always good. He's not a spectacular D man but he rarely makes mistakes. He's had a great year.

I would put Hammer and Juice back together and make them the de facto shutdown pair. They were awesome at that and contributing more than they are now. I hate AV's philosophy of balancing out lines (putting good/hot players with bad/cold ones to try to spark the baddies) rather than putting lines together based on chemistry and effectiveness. Oh hey, Weise is playing decent? BETTER PUT HIM ON THE SEDIN LINE TO GET THEM GOING.

Having Garrison and Edler presents a problem because they both shoot left. Best case scenario would be to grab two free agent D next year, a puck moving D (a passer, not a shooter) and a solid, vet, stay at home D, both right handed shots. Split up Garrison and Edler, put the guy that's struggling with the vet and the hotter of the two with the mover. Rotate based on play or need. Unfortunately, we don't have the cap room nor the roster space. So the D is going to look more and more like putting square pegs in round holes.

Edler and Bieksa need stable partners to thrive, like Edler did with Salo and Bieksa did with Hamhuis. That's why I don't understand the pairings this year. Why split up Bieksa and Hamhuis?

spideyv2 05-04-2013 09:02 PM

^Hammer and Garrison booth shoot left, too.

Ronin 05-04-2013 09:04 PM

I know. Hammer shoots left and Bieksa shoots right. That's why that pair works. Splitting them up was stupid.

Not really racist! 05-04-2013 09:11 PM

Wouldn't mind him getting moved but I don't think Gillis has the balls to do so.. maybe a different GM if ya know what I mean ;)

3 out of today's 4 games had shutouts....

I would say yes but honestly with the way B Shan does things you never know. When he first came on board I was optimistic but fast forward a few years and he has only further complicated things.

Blindside, leaves his feet, contact with the head. Should be a suspension.

Head is the primary point of contact too. Look at his hand push Lydman's shoulder after the contact. That should be evidence enough that the shoulder wasn't the primary point of contact.

Add to that the fact that Abdelkader isn't a star and there was an injury on the play. I'm going to guess 4-5 games.

Who thinks we're getting a repeat of last year against LA?

spoon.ek9 05-05-2013 09:57 AM

^ it sure feels that way.. hopefully the canucks can pull themselves out of this..

Islanders come back to tie the game 4-4. Tavares with an absolute snipe.

Mike Oxbig 05-05-2013 10:32 AM

go ISLANDERS! Tavares is Canada's hidden national treasure.

JT has been clutch
that is all

Speculation that Cory is starting... judging by how the gameday skate is going

kristianhay 05-05-2013 11:18 AM

Extremely soft call in OT leads to a Pens PP, and goal of course. Pretty bad.

Cory playing.

Also, looks like Ballard may be in, Alberts out.

Looks like Ballard is in for Alberts. Corrado playing tonight means 1st year of his entry level deal is burned. #canucks

AV just had on-ice discussion with Schroeder. Expect he is in for Ebbett. #Canucks

Stamkos is the treasure. Not hidden.

kristianhay 05-05-2013 11:34 AM

Bummer, no Schroeder.

AV confirms Schroeder will not play tonight. Won't confirm if Ballard plays. IF he does, it could be as fwd. #canucks
Can't score goals, play Ballard as a forward. #AVLogic
