I'm also in favor of Torts for the same reason.

Mike Oxbig 06-20-2013 12:03 PM

Unless we wait for Tipett if the Phoenix situation doesn't go well down there.

Torts will be a short term coach with this core, when this team is blown up he's done.

please sign Briere: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=1748

+1 for Briere. I don't even care if he doesn't score a goal in the regular season, he's a playoff stud.

Briere is not coming west. He's a divorced father that has his kids enrolled somewhere in philly. He's not moving them for a job

Inb4 Gillis waits too long to hire someone and we end up with Gulutzan and Arniel as our options

Would you still give Lu dome?

Spoiler!

Mike Oxbig 06-20-2013 04:14 PM

Gillis gonna wait too long and lose lappeirre and bid on boyd gordon, we need them signed for 1.1(lappy) and atleast 1.6-1.8(gordon).

Shit won't get done if canucks don't have high % F/O man playing puck possession game.

punkwax 06-20-2013 04:30 PM

Man, if half of you guys were Canucks' GM by the time you were 10 years old, we'd have, like, 4 Cups in a row!!

:ilied:

Asshole comment I know, but most of the know-it-all critics around here probably haven't even been responsible for managing a single employee let alone a sports franchise :lol

Would jizz my pants for Gordon.. get him for free and not too expensive
Rumors are saying Lappy is seeking a 4 year deal for security instead of a 2 year deal, management said they'll escalate their talks after they hire a coach

dbaz 06-20-2013 04:32 PM

boyd gordon, much like michalek, bryzgalov, smith etc is a product of tippets system. he might be good at faceoffs but over rated at other areas. hes also a 4th line player 1.6+ is too much for the canucks to be paying a player on the 4th line this year. his only other "decent" season was when he played top 6 at times during the 06-07 season for the capitals, and even then assuming where he was playing it wasnt that good of a season.

Gordon would be brought in for 3rd line duties, similar to Malhotra in 2010.

@News1130Sports
John Tortorella closer to being #Canucks new coach. Reports say he met yesterday with Mike Gillis in Boston. #NHL

Boyd Gordon is actually one of the best options out there to be Mannyv2 pre eye injury

Mike Oxbig 06-20-2013 04:52 PM

goc for 4th line duty

Any better options out there? Probably not.

Bringing in Gordon for $1.5-$2.0 million wouldn't be a bad acquisition.

spreadsheets can be made to tell anything, there's more to it than just stats, especially only 1 year of stats in this case. if someone really wanted to, they could compare Fabian Brunnstrom's first game to gretzky's and argue that brunnstrom is actually the greatest player not gretzky. you cant just look at their numbers, you have to look at the system they play in etc.

true the free agent market isnt good at the moment, but it is suspected either chris kelly or rich peverly will be bought out/traded. i would be looking at those 2. also possibly richards unless they are giving him another chance with av there.
other then that i would look at possible trade options: gaustad (rumored to have been shopped by the preds), ott etc
long shot would be trying to give malholtra a try out contract.

:suspicious:

Why would you even make a conclusion on a players success over ONE GAME? :seriously: . It's like saying Sam Gagner is better than Crosby cause Gagner had 8 points in 1 game while Crosby has never accomplished that :derp:

Bad example you made :lol

I would say spreadsheets/numbers/stats play a big part. Apparently, the Canucks use a 'numbers' system on determining if they should acquire X player.

this is just ridiculous

dbaz 06-20-2013 05:32 PM

i know it was a horrible example, but it was made to show how horribly one sided spread sheets can be made with "legit" stats. i know the canucks have been using them a lot recently, probably why ballard and booth worked out so well :troll:

kristianhay 06-20-2013 05:36 PM

I'd rather give one of the young guys a chance at 3C then pay Gordon 1.8m. The guy doesn't generate much offence and if you recall, our problem was scoring, not faceoffs.

Good

We need a no bullshit coach that will hold this veteran group accountable for playing like shit (i.e. Edler)

Sign Torts for 3-4 years (same time frame before this team is rebuilt) and be done with it

No need to rush our young guys (Gaunce). Wouldn't mind seeing him in the AHL for one more season. But Schroeder has paid his dues and belongs on the team.

The thing with Boyd Gordon is he's a defensive specialist (just like Malholtra). Give him the tougher minutes vs top lines so Kesler can focus on offense instead of playing offense AND shutdown.

kristianhay 06-20-2013 05:47 PM

Yeah, mainly thinking about Schroeder in that spot. If Gaunce impresses in camp though, who knows. In a cap era where we'll already be pressed against the cap, I just can't think it's reasonable to play a 4th line type player that much money. I don't think we're going to be winning the cup next season, so may as well do like GMMG said and develop our prospects at the NHL level.
