HELP! 2007 Lincoln MKX AWD Transmission Problem

Hi,
I am in urgent need of help, as we have been driving the family car an '07 MKX AWD, and when we shift from Park to Drive, the shifts are very like rough sort of a clunking sound. But the problem only gets worse, when we drive and reach about 1500 RPM on first I believe (even after adding the proper transmission fluid) the car jerks as if it went over a pot hole or a ditch and there is this horrible thumping sound that comes out. So we decided to park it at our place and drove it below 1500 revs without it shifting (under 20 km/h, i believe), and it still had this knocking sound that came from the engine once in a while and the engine heated up quite quickly even though we didn't drive it that hard.
Do you guys think my tranny is going or what else can be the problem?
I'd take it to the dealer but its in richmond and we live in vancouver, so we have to get it towed. But it's so sad how we just bought this car only a year ago and it's already having problems, it really sucks.
Anyway, I look forward to your replies!
Thanks!

It does sound like a transmission issue to me (from what complaints you provided anyway), is warranty still available on the car?

Sure it has proper level of fluid?
Warm and car is levelled and idling?

If it is, maybe a spring is broken.

And yeah, Sounds like a trans issue

Yeah we purchased an extended warranty with the car, but with a $300 deductible.
Fluid was low before, and apparently this was happening before too, but we filled it up with proper ATF fluid from dealer and yet this problem persists. The car is warm yes, but gets hot really fast as compared to before and like I said shifting from Park to Drive, etc. is noisy too. Do you guys think it's serious?
I thought MKXes and Ford Edges are relatively reliable cars, what do you guys think? Should we keep this car or will it give more problems in the future?

Shifting clunk from park to drive is normal if you're on any slight incline when the car is parked. If you have warranty then it's all good see what the dealer says first

Yeah well the clunk wasn't that noticeable until now, it's gotten noticeably louder
Also, I can't drive the car after first gear it just doesn't go any faster I believe..
I'm gonna go to the dealer first, and then go to other mechanics because I can't really drive it at all, need to tow it

^Well, I was sorta in the middle of a busy road near my house when this started to happen, so decided to drive it really slowly and park it back at our place since it was so close anyhow.

Modern transmission has built in ECU in the housing. It has probably gone into limp mode (that's why you can't drive at a higher speed). If you have a Ford specific scanner, you can scan the error code. You shouldn't have driven it to test it like that, chances are there is something wrong with the fluid flow in the transmission, testing it like that won't make it come back to life. $300 deductible on a $3k-4k part is not that bad. However deductible doesn't sound like a factory warranty.

I won't say it is the reliability factor of Ford unless you know what the previous owner (which I assumed you bought it used since you said you got it last year and it is an 07), did to the car.

Since it is AWD.. make sure when they tow it all, 4 wheels are not touching the ground. AND you read the manual to make sure all procedures were followed.
