Warn your grandma's

FerrariEnzo 06-29-2012 12:06 AM

Wow.. $15,000 for a jade bracelet...

Why would you buy something that you dont know how to determine if its real/fake or worth the price???

negged. 06-29-2012 12:08 AM

Wow, these people tried to scam my grandma 2 weeks ago in Chinatown. She said she almost fell for it but suspected it to be fishy. Although my grandma was lucky to have ducked into a pharmacy and they lost sight of her, if she continued walking on the street I'm sure she would've been followed and harassed.

the suspect with the hat, i have a picture of that exact looking woman who wears teh same fisherman's hat. She is also from san fransisco but was with me and my family in a beijing tour on June 9th where the event had happened. :suspicious:

my uncle was scammed yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars ago in china bought a boulder for $500,000 was shown some great jade and had a basic boulder delivered to him

Hondaracer 06-29-2012 06:00 AM

A 15k lesson

punkwax 06-29-2012 06:40 AM

Feel bad for the victim, hate scammers, not shitting on other people's culture, but... Magical bracelet with healing powers... :lawl:

Go buy a Q-Ray! It will also take strokes off your golf game.

mercyboy 06-29-2012 08:01 AM

interesting saying that.. you wouldn't get it check from a professional or buy from them yet believing the talk of asian people for just a jade braclet in the middle of Chinatown hmmmmm. :concentrate: damm 15k is a lot

Redlines_Daily 06-29-2012 08:56 AM

The $ amounts Chinese are willing to pay for jade boggles my mind. A $300 bracelet looks the same to me as a $5k one. Though westerners are just as crazy about diamonds, mostly just a status thing I suppose?

Hondaracer 06-29-2012 09:10 AM

Diamond are actually WORTH Somthing..

ParadiseLost 06-29-2012 09:14 AM

^ a diamond is worth "something" in the same way that a jade is worth "something"... :suspicious:

Anything is worth "something" if "someone" is willing to pay for it.

Bahhbeehhaaaa 06-29-2012 09:24 AM

and when someone is willing to pay for it, the price will eventually go up

No shit.

To me diamonds that people wear serve no useful purpose, so they're pretty worthless to me.

This is an eye-opening read: Magazine - Have You Ever Tried to Sell a Diamond? - The Atlantic

El Bastardo 06-29-2012 09:45 AM

Diamonds don't have magical healing properties and won't curse you if you don't buy them.

Don't buy your wife/gf one and see if you get cursed.

Psykopathik 06-29-2012 10:07 AM

diamonds are completely worthless to me unless they are on a saw blade or drill. Fuck paying for a shiny rock.

go buy a diamond, and also buy some gold.
try to sell both back and you'll see that gold actually has intrinsic value and diamonds do not.

I guess it's true, but not very much. I mean, if you came up to me with a sack of diamonds for 10 bucks, I'd buy it casue I know someone else would pay more even though it's worthless.

Expresso 06-29-2012 10:25 AM

The lesson here is to avoid buying jade off the street and buy used engagement ring.

Give me a break...

If you buy a 15k diamond odds are the worse you can do is lose MAYBE a 1/4 of its value on resale

No one with half a brain is buying a 15k jade bracelet for 10k on resale, it has no actual worth, this idiot was fleeced.

AzNightmare 06-29-2012 12:53 PM

Anyone want to buy my base set foil Charizard TCG card?
I heard it was worth like $300...

Diamonds are worth a lot only because people would pay a lot for it.
