It's the culture in China. Less individualistic and more like everyone else and being the same (forgot the term). In China, people want to be new and updated with current market trends as much as possible and even if they don't have financial support to uphold it, they will find other ways. Most commonly it's the boyfriend that supplies it.

I've heard stories of China women/girls that their mindset is a guy bringing out a girl on a date or even as friends is a priviledge; and they should honor that priviledge that the girl is willing to be out with the guy by paying for everything.
