Kia's BMW 7 series replica

New BMW 7 series, oop's I meant Kia's new flagship car the "9" series...

On a serious note, I spotted this car a few months ago and the LED headlamps look nice.

too many similarities, if I had the money I'd rather just get a 7 series

PJ 07-10-2012 06:06 AM

I saw this rolling around a few months ago too. The LED headlamps do look pretty crazy.

They really didn't have to make such a "knock-off" of the BMW.

Kia's Optima looks good enough, and this car would've done fine, if not better, had they just advanced with that styling. At least it's a good look they can actually call their own.

Now people might avoid this just because it looks so much like a knock-off.

+1, even down to the style of the shifter. Way too close.

Some of the styling cues are just too tacky/cheap, like the fender 'vent' chrome trim and the 'swoop' for the side mirror turn signals.

CP.AR 07-10-2012 07:53 AM

k9=canine=dog :fuckthatshit:

Akinari 07-10-2012 08:16 AM

What a blatant ripoff. Come on Kia, you can do better than that...

I think :suspicious:

donjalapeno 07-10-2012 08:54 AM

its not even called the "9 series" its called the Kia K9, and the only resemblance it has to the 7 series is the rear end.

unit 07-10-2012 09:02 AM

not a fan but its a step in the right direction for KIA
its like how hyundais were blatant ripoffs of hondas until they recently developed their own unique designs.

320icar 07-10-2012 09:41 AM

Those headlights are ugly as sin. But I would still choose it over the 7 series. That is if they bring out a bigger motor version

I digress. This is a step backwards for Kia.

The Optima design language was a great step forward. It was bold, and it was original. This is a rip-off of another cars design. They took the easy way out and its going to kill the momentum they were building with some of the recent styling successes.

Matsuda 07-10-2012 10:15 AM

man that shifter is way too similar to BMWs

tofu1413 07-10-2012 10:34 AM

so much similarities its not even funny..

pretty sure you blind fold a seven series driver and you put him in this car.. he'd think its his own car.. (besides the possible smell of dog :troll: )

Mr.C 07-10-2012 10:38 AM

The front looks like a 7 and the rear looks like an LS460. lol.

But hey, it's cheaper than a new 7. And might be more reliable, too.

kwy 07-10-2012 11:51 AM

Pretty much all cars are ripoffs of other cars. Remember in the 90s when the S class, 7 series, and Lexus LS all looked the damn same? It's nothing new.

Hyundai and Kias are looking a lot better now, some of their cars look pretty promising. I'd totally drive a Genesis or Veloster.

StylinRed 07-10-2012 12:05 PM

is it wrong if i find it more interesting than an actual 7series? :)

boostfever 07-10-2012 12:19 PM

that design team is consisted of pricks with no imagination whatsoever.

Don't recall them ever looking the same. Even in the 80's.

well lets face it i doubt this thing would be in the price range of a 7 anyway.

the target demographic group for this car is NOT potential 7 series buyers.

nobody with the money to buy a 7 would choose this car over the 7, they don't care about things like 'led headlights'. they care more about the proven track record of the 7.

but i was thinking this might cannibalize some of the sales from the genesis sedan... smart move or no? considering kia is partially owned by hyundai.

while i do agree that korean cars are starting to look better and better especially when compared to american/japanese cars, i don't see any reason someone with the money to buy a european equivalent would purchase the korean one instead.

sonick 07-10-2012 03:35 PM

K9 or the Equus? I'd go with the Equus.

PJ 07-10-2012 04:45 PM

Equus easily

busdriverman 07-10-2012 04:56 PM

the kia k9 even took the opague eyebrow in the headlights from BMW
