50k/yr is the absolute minimum i want to be making. by the time im 30.. thats enough to own a decent car and live comfortably.

I made more than my parents combine yet I am not able to save as much as they did.

Sometimes I wonder how can they so much. The on,y thing i come up with is the fact that we are way more spoil than our parents.

Just think about it we all have a laptop/iPad/desktop/ps3/Xbox........ While out parents got maybe just a TV at most. Also they don't go out as often as we do nor eat out as much. Nor they do spend on getting new shoes every few months or new clothes.

They know the value of raising a family and family come first while most of us "I" come first and spend away. I do give props to the older generations. They work hard, save a lot and now they can enjoy their life.

OP: Please seek counseling.

Sure, happiness can be found in small things even when youre poor but to live in a modern society in this day and age, if you dont have the money, dont expect to be happy often.

The people who say money doesnt buy happiness are fucking hipster middle-upper class and dont know what its like to be poor.

What makes you happy? keeping family alive so you can spend time with them(feeding)? meeting friends(from different town?)? travelling? beer? you need money to do those/to do it more often. Money buys happiness.

Dad is unemployed right now, mom works 2 jobs and lives with no bills to pay except for her own personal crap(cell phone, car and insurance.) Reverse 10 years and my dad was unemployed and my mom was working at a call center for 10$ an hour. back then I'd be doing better then both... Hell, for awhile my brother was working at the same call center for the same amount of pay with no bills.

Try asking this question again when your parents hit 7 figures a year. All while doing... well... nothing except vacation everyday.

My goal is to make 6 figures this year. If/When I do that I will officially be making more than my parents did, combined. :D

Most parents paid off their mortgage probably in 2-3 years, now they should have 20 yr or more working experience and have a million dollar of saving so far...how about in your case?

I don't know what kind of "parents" you're referring to, I don't know of anyone paying off their mortgage in 2-3 years?

Anyways, my parents were poor peasants from a Communist country who immigrated here and took up jobs in sweatshops and kitchens, so making more than them is not really that difficult an achievement lols. :D

EDIT: just read through this thread, too bad it's a troll thread, it's an interesting topic.
