Nissan designers recently visited the United States Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron at their hangar in Pensacola, Florida, for help in planning future cars. http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/ni...716122_717.jpg The pilots checked out the 2013 Nissan GT-R, offering their feedback on the exteriors, interiors and ride and handling. While Nissan did not say exactly which vehicle would be most influenced by the Navy fliers, it was clear that the GT-R took center stage in the unusual automotive field trip. In one photograph, the 2013 Nissan GT-R is positioned in front of several fighter jets. The Nissan team mingled with the Blue Angels pilots to find out what they needed most for a smooth ride and how they interact with their gauges and instruments in different situations. http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/ni..._71612_717.jpg "A lot of the things that they do in the cockpit are things that we can pull in and help our drivers and our customers do inside the car," said Nissan Product Planner Jared Haslam in a statement. Blue Angels pilot John Hiltz said it's all about accessing technology easily and efficiently. http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/ni...716123_717.jpg "The easier it is to interface with whatever it is you are flying or driving, it just makes the driving experience that much more pleasurable and also that much more comfortable," Hiltz told Nissan. The Blue Angels pilots and ground crew were then given an opportunity to drive some of the automaker's performance products, including the Nissan GT-R. http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/ni...716124_717.jpg "We're always looking for inspiration beyond the auto industry in the design and development of our performance vehicles, and the Blue Angels have set the standard for high-speed excellence throughout their 66-year history," Haslam said. http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/ni..._71612_717.jpg The Nissan personnel returned with a number of ideas from both a design and product development standpoint. These concepts will eventually be passed along to Nissan customers. Great ideas don't fall from the sky. They're housed in a cockpit. So Nissan is running out of ideas and has decided to borrow one from American Choppers / Pilgrim Productions? |
Not sure what Nissan's trying to pull off here. I smell a costly publicity stunt full of bs lol |
honestly, since i work at nissan myself: lower the damn price on that car. black edition is 112k ffs. GTR shouldve been a 60-80 car to begin with... |
Make no sense having fighter pilots give input on a CAR |
So.....can I expect an actual airplane mode in the next GTR? Considering how it's fast enough to fly :fullofwin: |
maybe they want to put a the nose cone onto the GTR to make it more aerodynamic? |
ya, its really doesnt make sense to have some fighter pilots pointing at some coolant hoses. what input could they possibly provide? |
I'll never buy a Nissan as long as they keep running those awful, annoying commercials: You pay what we pay, you pay what we pay :fuuuuu: |
They should just throw a manual transmission on the GTR, charge 40k less for it, and project this crap onto the windshield and call it the 2014 :) http://www.2dayblog.com/images/2011/...-of-future.jpg |
Publicity stunt. If they wanted anything to actually work with jet design they would talk to the engineers or designers rather than the pilots (not to take anything away from pilots, its just that they aren't involved in the design/engineer side). The most we will see out of this one is a colour scheme at most. |
money shouldve been spent on R&D for a much lighter RWD car.. Nissan needs it. they already got an excellent 1.6 direct injection motor on the Juke.. I love that motor. its great. capable on running regular... car is 188hp right now, and could be cranked up to 240hp.. I mean how hard is it to make that motor RWD compatible and scale down/ lighten the Z's chassis? ahh Nissan.... :rukidding: |

S chassis. yes. could be named Silvia or even just Nissan SX. share some chassis components with the Z.. |
I don't know why you would get non-automotive people to design cars... reminds me of this. http://onscreencars.com/wp-content/u...1/TheHomer.jpg |
Launch control, in a whole new sense :derp: http://www.sizor.com/cvn65_bb/images/BlueAngels10.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7136/7...4cae2ca8_o.jpg :fullofwin: |
I can imagine a Blue Angle edition GTR with some custom badges, paint, wheels, and nav/info screen. |

think of the initial release 08' MSRP: it was 85k or so. due to demand from market (*cough* fan boyism too) during initial release, prices ballooned as high as 130k a unit @ edmonton (no lie) nissan seeing it possible to sell the car @ six digit figures... decided to raise the MSRP to six digits. well they gonna make more money per unit. |
So they're basically doing this. But making it a big deal. |

Blue Angel was never involved in ZR-1 development. |

Will this car have TURBO? |
