Shell Oil ad contest

So, Shell Oil has decided to capitalize on social media

Quote:
Here at Shell, we’re committed to online social media. After all, it’s the fuel that lubricates the engines of internet communication.

In June, thousands of you demonstrated this by explaining, online, how Arctic energy production will transform the world and possibly provide affordable fuel for several years.

Today, we want to take the Arctic Ready message offline, directly to the drivers who benefit from Shell’s performance fuels. That's why we're launching a new campaign (deadline this Thursday!), from which the best ads will be printed and posted in strategic locations worldwide. With your help, we at Shell can tell the world how pumped we are about Arctic energy, and take the Arctic Ready message to Arctic-enthused drivers everywhere.

So take a moment to add your own slogan to our beautiful new collection of images. The next place you see it might be your own rearview mirror.

Because tomorrow is yesterday, accelerated.

Let’s go.
How in the world could this go wrong??

Let's Go Public! Ad Contest Gallery | Shell

I have heard this happened to GM as well....oh, the lols!

Wonder how long it will take them to close the contest, remove the site, and pretend it never happened...

So all you win is having your ad with no name on it posted worldwide, yet no one but your friends around you know this (if they believe you first though). That's it?

Surprisingly well done, in that I didn't even think it was a fake, BUT, you start clicking around and all the other links(careers, corporate info) it ALL comes back to "let's go social media campaign".

Then, the whois information.

And, then where the site is hosted:

https://mayfirst.org/

A left of center, save the earth type site.

Damn, I was really hoping that Shell was just that dumb.
