Error using Filezilla

I'm using FileZilla and I keep on getting this error:
Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename".

host: ftp.ericchow.me
user: ericchow
password: (I typed it right)

I've been following the directions from here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_FileZilla

Then what do I do?

lilaznviper 07-18-2012 06:12 PM

check your dns records for your domain

Check it for what? It's my first time hosting.

!MiKrofT 07-18-2012 07:59 PM

Your domain isn't pointing to anything. I doesn't look like it's setup correctly. Do you have a hosting plan in addition to your domain name?

etodac 07-18-2012 08:01 PM

^ Yes I do with directhosting.ca

lilaznviper 07-18-2012 09:44 PM

there should be a dns manager somewhere on your domain page.
Where you have the 'ftp' record pointing to, is not to the correct ip. Your '@' record is not even pointing to the correct place either i believe since i can't even resolve ericchow.me

Is this what I'm looking for?

lilaznviper 07-18-2012 10:17 PM

did you buy your domain from directhosting as well?

etodac 07-18-2012 10:17 PM

No, I bought it from namesforcheap.

lilaznviper 07-18-2012 11:07 PM

dns manager would be at namesforcheap

Then?

Did you even bother Googling?

etodac 07-19-2012 08:01 AM

Still getting the same error.

Seems ok to me now that you've fixed your nameservers:

When I use the network wizard, it says it's fine too, but it still doesn't work.

Could be your ISP lagging behind on the nameserver change.

According to google filezilla can't resolve your domain name.

Tempoarily try using 67.213.73.27 in place of ftp.ericchow.me and see if it connects.
The port is blank. I'm not sure if it matters as I don't use filezilla but it should be 21.

etodac 07-19-2012 02:06 PM

Which ftp do you use? I don't mind switching, I just used FireZilla because it's free.

lilaznviper 07-19-2012 02:25 PM

filezilla defaults to 21 unless you have it different on the server end then you would put in the port #

I see we have some fellow web admins here :P

etodac 07-30-2012 09:07 AM

Update: when uploading the wordpress files, I keep on getting a "too many connections from this IP". Filezilla is the only program I'm running. Ideas?

Presto 07-30-2012 09:17 AM

It could be the FTP server only allows single connections to it. Filezilla, by default, has 2 simultaneous transfers enabled. Go to Settings > Transfers. Change Maximum simultaneous transfers to 1.

etodac 07-30-2012 09:37 AM

Same error as before:

Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response: 421 Too many connections (4) from this IP
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Delaying connection for 5 seconds due to previously failed connection attempt...

Is it worth it to redirect my Wordpress.com blog to my new blog for $10 a year?
