CONFIDENTIAL: friend that's been all up in my grill lately

So I have this friend I have known since highschool.

We've been buddies for a long time now and the
thing about him is he likes to copy me alot. Every single damn thing I do he decides to copy me and try to outcompete me in it. Every god damn single thing.

For example, I'd go apply for a job somewhere and he'd do the same. I'd apply for a faculty at a
university and he'd do the same. Normally, I'm ok with it, but lately it's been getting worse and worse to the point where I don't know how to deal with it.

We're in university now, and he still continues to copy everything i do. For every friend I meet in university, he talks to them and when I'm not there, he'd talk shit about me to that friend... It's getting to the point where, when we are in group gatherings, he'd consistently block me off from conversations by talking directly with those other friends, and when I
speak with him, he'd intentionally ignore me. He has been a good friend to me though, he helps me out from time to time, but lately he's been talkin alot of shit about me behind my back. It's gotten to the point where he started making false accusations about me liking this one girl whom that group of friends know. I want to branch out and meet new people, but because I share so many common classes
with him, I'm always being forced to hang out only with him. IT'S REALLY PISSING ME THE FUCK OFF.

Alot of the things he says are really immature, things that highschoolers would say. For example, I'd see a girl that I know on the bus, and we'd say hi and chat a bit, and then me and my friend would move and sit somewhere. He'd make it really obvious and say out loud so that girl could hear "dude are u gonna tap
that chick?" This is one of the many immature
remarks that come out of his mouth from time to time (quite frequently now) and I just don't know how to put up with this. Have you guys had some of these experiences? If so, how did you deal with it?

Getting rid of your shitty friends and keeping the good ones is part of growing up.

Tell him to grow the fuck up or don't talk to you ever again.
Maybe you could tell him less stuff? Like if he asks you what you applied for just say I don't know/ I forget.
But at the last part.

Did any of the job you both applied and he would get it over you? That may be unintentional harm to you. But talking shit behind your back is intentional.

Next time it is just you town, call him out on it and explain that your friendship ends now.

If you do not want to be that obvious....just start ignoring him or start phasing him out (I phased a friend out last year). Don't answer his calls all the time, don't introduce him to your new friends, don't make plans to hang-out.

You are in control of this...the only way this is going to stop being a problem in your life is if you deal with it....he won't change.

When you get older you will learn that sometimes you need to strategically cut ties with certain people.
