Plastic trim cleaning

You know when polish or wax gets on the plastic trim pieces, it's super hard to clean off (especially textured ones). I've searched on the web, there are myths about using peanut butter, leather oil, and whatever oil related stuff with a toothbrush would clean it off slowly....

I haven't tried any of that yet, and heard those 'return to black' stuff just covers the white residue instead of cleaning it off. Any suggestion on what really works?
