Deliver to post office?

Hey guys, I got a question for those that order online a lot.

Is it possible for them to ship the item to the post office directly, without initially trying to deliver it to my address? Also, if it is possible, will they leave a slip on my door saying that it arrived?

Thanks!

To have it shipped to the post office directly, I think you need to "sign up" at the post office for a mailbox.

When it arrives at the post office, you should get a notice from them or a phone call.

Your best bet is to ask/call the post office just to confirm.

Why would you want that? It's better to just have it sent to your house so you don't have to go to the post office lol. But if they deliver it to your house and you're not there, they'll leave a note for you with the address to go get it.

I've had a couple of problems with Canada post / UPS leaving items on my doorstep when no one is home. Last time I ordered a bunch of computer/gaming stuff from bestbuy online and they dropped it right on my doorstep, came home from work hours later and luckily my neighbour picked it up for me and put it in his house so no one would take it

Yeah true. You could leave a note on the door telling them not to leave it on your doorstep. But If they do and it goes missing you can just file a claim for it.

Everyone's got it.
I shop online religiously.

If I'm expecting a package, I always leave a note saying PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE PARCELS ON DOORSTEP IF NO ONE IS HOME.

If you want something shipped directly to the post office, you need to pay for a PO Box.

lol the mailman rarely leaves my parcels on my doorstep.

He'll just shove everything inside my small ass mailbox.

If it's 2 parcels? he just leaves the larger one on my doorstep

When purchasing a parcel, just ask the seller to send it out as a Hold For Pick Up, when the closet location near you has it, they will call you to pick it up.

well it depends on who and where you are ordering from.. a lot of places doesn't even ship unless it's the same as ur mailing address to avoid fraud etc.

if a signature is a must for delivery than it'll go to the post office if you're not there

if there are duties to be paid and you're not there it'll go to the post office

if it doesn't fit in the box and you're not there to pick it up it'll go to the post office

if its UPS they'll just leave it in the open with a beacon on top so everyone knows you've got a package sitting in the open

I absolutely hate UPS's procedures.
I always try and opt for FedEx whenever possible

Hey guys, thanks for all the valuable information.

You guys recommend against UPS. Upon doing a little bit of research I see that they have the worst duty fees.. Would you guys say USPS and FedEx have the cheapest duty fees?

usps doesn't have any duty fees its dependent on Canada Post if they will charge you duties when receiving a usps package

Fuck UPS and Fuck FedEx. They both have THE WORST brokerage fees. Throw DHL into the bag too.

USPS / Canada Post has the best brokerage fees, typically $5 flat rate.

actually that's incorrect. its dependent on customs. customs inspect every package that comes through canada post, and they decide if they want to charge duties or not. canada post just collects on their behalf

Customs and duties all depend on the value that the sender declares. So if you got a nice company, they'll put the item worth as something low like $10. If there is customs it's only under $10.

Whenever possible I try to avoid DHL/UPS etc because some of the shipping fees are expensive and I just go with the cheapest shipping to avoid hassle even though it may take longer so order in advance.
