Bought Civic, Need helps...

Picked up a 2000 civic siR When purchasing aftermarket parts, what years do I ask for. IS my car a ef, ex, ek etc...?? What what engine do I have. Its a b16... but what exactly is it. I'd like a true cai, etc.

Also, what forum would be best suited for me.

The engine is a B16A2. You should head over to the vancouver civics forum.

If you’re ordering from the states, you have a 2000 Civic Si, if your ordering parts in Canada, you have a 2000 Civic SiR.

The car is the same, but the US labeled it a Si model, Canada labeled it a SiR.

I had an SiR for 5 years before buying a G35. It was a fun ride and great on gas. I still regret not keeping it.

The engine you have is a B16A2 160hp 1.6L DOHC VTEC. It's fun for starters but you'll realize how slow it actually is pretty quickly.

I'd recommend getting an AEM CAI. My friend has a massive one in his car.

EF/EG/EK are chassis codes

EF = 88-91
EG = 92-95
EK = 96-00

Your SiR is specifically an EM1 from 99-00, you will see this included in your VIN number on the dash. As mentioned above, in the US your car is referred to as the 99-00 Si.

Honda | Acura Research, Reviews, Performance Parts, Owners - Honda-Tech.com is my fav for Honda related stuff. The audience over there is really quite mature and very knowledgeable. Just remember your car is an EM1 / Honda Civic Si in US-speak and you'd be fine.

The local performance shop was recomending getting a Hondata, pigtail adapter and switch to a obd1 ecu before I start doing mods.

Only things planned for the next while are the intake, header, catback exhaust, and possibly a larger throttlebody. Would the hondata really be needed? Seems like an expensive little 'mod'

I'd only go with Hondata S300 if you're serious about modifying your EM1. Ie, a fully built engine that you want to be able to fine tune.

All of the mods you listed above will not require Hondata to function. If you want a bit more torque out of your B16, I'd recommend buying a set of GSR cams to swap in.

GSR or Type R cams and don't bother with the Hondata unless your really modding it. There is Free software that IF you want to run OBD1 with will work just as well on a modded P28 ECU.

Now here is the shitty part. BEFORE you start doing a bunch of shit to your car remember it's in the year that requires OBD scanning for aircare. If you start taking shit out and throw a code you won't pass the OBD scan. That means you need to run your STOCK ECU for aircare so do NOT get rid of any emissions stuff under the hood.

Berz out.

^ type r cams means he will need to change the valve train. with gsr, he won't have to worry about anything. his location says kelowna so i take it he doesn't need to worry about aircare there.

The EM1's were out of my price range back then, and people kept stealing the Stock rims! It's still a peppy car by today's standards, congrats on getting a Honda from the time when they still made great cars

Congrats on the new car indeed.

Like the above person said, the rims, seats, front lip, motor, gauge cluster were the most wanted items by thieves back in the day. EM1 SiR available in 99-00 but thieves really wanted those items up to 2002-3. My friend/old mechanic's old SiR was stolen twice/thrice.

You guys and a local civic guy down the street are highly suggesting a cam. Seems like a simple mod that I can match a set of cam gears too. Just got the cai on and it brought this car to life. Still not the power I want, but its gonna come. Im gonna browse a few honda forums till I find the format I like. And I've got to go catback shopping for something QUIET. I love the stock sound, mabye something a little louder... I'll see what I come across

A'Pexi WS2 is the exhaust you'll want then. It's quiet but it has a nice tone to it. It is a 2.5" catback though, so you'll either need to weld a larger flange to your cat or get a 2.5" header and testpipe. You could also do an aftermarket high flow 2.5" cat.

Answer is twice. Metrotown and Richmond.
Stock SIR seats are crap. His was stolen for the Sparco seat.

Same thing with the ITR, the car is easy to steal and stolen for their parts that fit other Honda cars.

I had a 2000 SiR before too. Great reliable car. Never had any issues with it other then the MANY attempted thefts. Owned it 3 years and probably had 10 attempts. Most in my own driveway. Might not be so bad now because the cars older, but it has no immobilizer so insanely easy to steal.

I would make sure to get a good alarm + extra features before dumping tons of money into it. Reroute the hood release cable and disable the manual door lock switches. I then had the power lock switch wired to a relay so when the alarm was active the switch didn't work. Make sure to get the alarm brain hidden and wire up a proper "open circuit" immobilzer (some people just did a hidden switch for the fuel pump).

Enjoy the new ride. It rocks.
