yeah, just go to any cel unlocker, and you now get to pay $50 to get it unlocked. hope you didn't pay more than $300 for a 4 or $400 for a 4s. although, why you didn't just wait for the new one coming out in a month I dunno. the current ones won't drop til the day after the new ones are released.

thanks for the information guys, if this is something unlocking the phone can fix then im okay with that. got a really good deal ($320 for 4s) so im fine with paying another $30 or whatever to unlock it. as long as i didnt spend 3 bills on expensive paperweight lol. the seller told me it was locked to rogers and im on rogers so thats why im worried if the phone is broken or something.

edit: didn't wait for iphone5 because the phone im using now is broken and i need a phone asap so imma use this for another 3 months or whenever the 5 is out

Did you test it out when you bought it? Are you using a MicroSim? Could be a simcard problem, never know. Do a restore on the iphone, and unbrick it with a new sim.

i didn't have a mini SIM card to use to test it and it didn't seem like a scam deal lol but yeah that was stupid of me to purchase without testing
i went on Free iPhone Operator Check By IMEI and tested the IMEI number .

Value:
Device Family: iPhone
Device Model: IPHONE 4S 16GB BLACK
Device IMEI: XXXXXXXXX
Country Code: USA
Purchase Country: CA
Is Activated: YES
Activation date: 2011-12-17
ICCID:
Locked Status: Locked
Carrier: Bell CAN

so does that mean it is locked to Bell and that if i unlock the phone it will work lol.

Yea, exactly. Once you unlock it, you can use it on telus, rogers, etc.

The next step is to phone bell with the imei, and see if it is stolen. If its stolen, they won't unlock it for you, nor can you use it on their network. So jailbreak would be only way possible.

Carrier have the ability to unlock the phone. however the only way the phone can be unlocked is it has to be linked to an account and the full unsubsidized price have been paid ie $500bux and then you have to pay $50 on top. you can cry whine and bitch all you want at bell but they won't unlock it for you coz you wouldn't know which account it was linked to and for all we know it could been even stolen especially when he has no clue what carrier it's locked to. best thing for you to do is to try a bell microsim and see if the phone even works. and then sell it off on craigslist and buy a rogers one and this time do test it first.
