Nixon Automotive Hey guys, My car is due for maintenance soon and I want to bring it to Nixon Automotive (BMW) instead of the dealership because of their outrageous prices. Any one had any experience with them before? How are their prices compared to BMW Dealership? Overall service quality and experiences? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! |
They missed some stuff on my PPI for my 7. Some really expensive stuff, unfortunately. I have received excellent service from CG Motorsports. My dad took his 7 there, and was also very happy. |
I went to 3rd and 4th year with a guy from Nixon, pretty smart guy. Sounds like a really good alternative to the stealership The only bad things I've ever heard, Im pretty sure were from Mr.cs post a while back |
The only "negative" story I've ever heard was Mr. C's. I've had great experiences there myself. They are one of the better independent BMW shops in town. As for CG...:inoutugh: |
I was not impressed by Nixon Automotive as well. I took my car in for a loose steering feel, and an off alignment. They tightened my column shaft nut so much that now my telescoping wheel doesn't work (until i un-tighten it and put it back to spec), and they said my alignment is "fine". They didn't charge me much, but they also didn't do much. My loose steering was because of my worn steering box, which I then replaced myself. I still need to go for an alignment, and I think i'll be taking it to CG for it. |

+1 BJ autohaus. I found that it is even cheaper at BJ than Nixon for some stuff. |
Had my car coded by Nixon, no issues whatsoever. In fact the guy who did coding couldn't code my car properly told me he would upgrade his system and call me back a few weeks later, didn't believe him. Few weeks later he calls me back, tells me to bring my car in, does all the coding plus extra stuff for free. |
They're hit and miss it seems... I've dealt with them a few times over the years and sometimes they're good, sometimes they miss the mark by a tad bit. |
was there for my PPI and left happy. I'm going to use them for my next scheduled maintenance. Met the owner at a bbq and he is a big car guy.. For me, it's nice to know that the people working on my car are as passionate about cars as I am. |
I've heard good things about Nixon. I know a few friends who have had their cars serviced there. honest work, but you might need to book a few weeks in advance as they're usually pretty booked. |
CG charges more than the deal by the way. |

I wasn't too impressed with them when I went in with my e46 M3... had some airbag light issues and their basic strategy was to keep replacing components and resetting the module until the problem goes away. I ended up just reading bimmer forums and fixing it myself -- total cost $35 for OBD cable from ebay + soldering iron instead of the ~$500 they tried to charge me. But if you don't have the time/desire to deal with the issues yourself I guess every single dealer/shop here doesn't truly troubleshoot, they just read codes and replace parts... so nixon may not be as bad... not sure how much the stealership would want to charge me for the issue |

Sorry to bump this thread up. I got leaks and burning oil on my e46. I'm debating on bringing it into Nixon, Richmond Motorworks, or TSS. Thoughts? |
Seemed like knowledgeable staff and treated me great, didn't feel like I was getting played at all. Professional work and great customer service both times I went. |
My first guess is you got the oil filter housing gasket leakage. It's easy to check if it is. And if it is, you might try DIY if time and skill allows Also I have used Nixon before and would go back if I need to. |

I don't really know the amount. But I topped up about 200ml on Sunday after a short cypress rip. And then yesterday (Wednesday), I had to top up another 300ml. Only issue is that I checked the dipstick 3 times (for an average). First two times were both at medium oil level. Third time was at minimal. So I checked another 3 times, and it seemed to me that I was low on oil. Topped up again. Weirdest thing is that I really started leaking oil last Thursday. Got the car on Monday, didn't leak between those days. And even when I leaked, up until yesterday, I didn't really see a drop in oil levels. Edit: Feels bad, I'm hijacking a nixon thread.
