it was also the last thing seen in the 1st season finale which has to have been one of the biggest WTF cliffhanger season finales ive seen.

as for driving over and poking that thing, im not sure how these missions go but i would assume they have a very specific time frame with a linear plan for experiments. they may have already spent the allotted time in that area and have moved on to a different area.

The old rover Opportunity is still active after 9 years and only had a 90 day mission.

I only hope that this new mission is half as successful! They'll get time to check out lots of stuff.
