Unfortunately the reality is that if 4 'regular' cars where doing 110-120kph in an 80kph section of the sea-to-sky (a regular occurance) no one would give a shit.

But when it's four $200,000 Porsches, it's sensational for the media and a perfect opportunity for an officer to make an example of someone.

a 1-week vehicle impoundment would be an additional cost to what you paid above. if you are caught doing 40kph+, you still need to pay the crazy fine and ICBC premiums

Guess it's a good thing then, the law only allows them to impound the car for a few days... rather than forcing the owners to stand and watch the car get crushed, like in Ontario.

I totally agree with the 40km/h over impound law, if the government decides to re-analyze the speed limits for all major roads.

Seriously, highway 1 at 80km/h. On a bright sunny day, the average speed is 120-130km/h. You get tailgated when it's 110km/h. Does that mean everybody needs to get their car towed because apparently it is extremely dangerous according to the government?

Or how about the highway 91A, the part between Alex Fraser Bridge and Queensborough Bridge? There's a section where it's 60km/h. Seriously, 60km/h on a super wide and safe highway? How about we just get off the car and walk or take the bus instead? Oh wait, I forgot Translink is shit.

When I drive down to the states on I5, I actually follow the speed limit. Why? Because it is a fair speed limit. 70mph is around 120km/h, which is just about right for the road condition.

Maybe they should re-think why 95% of the drivers here are not following the speed limits at all.

Ask the people working in that stretch whether it's dangerous. The only place within the Lower Mainland that Hwy. 1 is 80 is through the construction zone, where there's broken pavement, multiple layers of pavement, abrupt lane changes, constant lane re-alignments, and of course, lots of workers and equipment.

Agreed. The number of people going 40+ over in the construction zone is insane. They do deserve to lose their cars - permanently.

All it takes is one more flagger killed.. but still, people won't slow down because they're fucking idiots.
