Happened to me once in a bald tire S13 on the 91.

I have no idea how fast that guy was going, but I saved it with Counter-steer and throttle to control the slide. My inexperience sent me manji-ing for a good 200m, but I didn't pussy out and hit a wall.

there's no excuse to try and cut someone off like that on a freeway when it's pissing rain

good chance you'll be hydroplaning

hydroplane of peace

people should be more aware. Offtopic but semi related, driving home in the thunderstorm yesterday I saw 3 rear end car accidents in a 5 km span. People don't realize that when it doesn't rain for awhile oil builds up on the road, then it rains and its super slick.

I find the worst weather brings out the idiots. Wait till it snows and watch the idiot drivers in SUVs flooring it like they're invincible.

And if you have wide tires and a grooved highway (if that's the proper term) you're asking for trouble. I remember driving my uncles old XJR a few years back and the tires on the front and rear were so wide that I almost lost control on Granville St switching lanes and I wasn't even speeding.

tires have nothing to do with it it's how wide/narrow your track is. to narrow or to wide you will be jumping in and out of the ruts in the road. also a bad front alignment can do this (or a race alignment) toe out in the front like half a degree and hold on for you life. i should know my car runs a degree tow out and it has a hard time staying in a lane at anything more the 65km/h

and i like how i got failed for this post then like 3 other people said the same thing.

and to the guy asking about abs/locking the wheels. i said locking the wheels as a general term but this driver probably slammed on the brakes clinched the steering wheel and thought abs would magically fix the mess he put himself in. abs allows you to STEER while slamming on the brakes. and next time i'll more correctly say he panicked and abs pulsed the brakes...

The BMW driver is at fault, but the person filming bears some responsibility for being a left lane hog.

BMW driver made a mistake of accelerating while making a swift lane change to the left, in order to pass the filmer. That maneuveur and bald tires were likely his undoing. If the filmer was driving in the right lane, the BMW would just have passed normally on the left, without trying to accelerate quick enough to break traction while changing lanes.

I think he was going pretty fast already.
Also, there is no passing lane on Taiwan's highways. The left lane is called "Fast Line" by the locals. As long as you are doing 100, you can keep on driving in that lane. People there dont really have the habit of changing to the right lane once they make a pass.

cant do that in the bmwor any newer cars, once u start loosing control, the cars electronic gadgets will engage the brakes and cut off throttle, so no matter how much u hammer the throttle, u wont be able to counter steer and throttle out of the slide.

lol I remember last christmas trying to get to an appointment in richmond near ironwood and coming off 99 onto steveston highway my car was zig zagging across two lanes pretty much like that m3 in the snow. I was only going 20-30 kph too... never again will I drive the miata on summers in that weather

Yep. Wide tires tramline like a mofo. I should have thought of that before buying a staggered set, lol.

jackal 08-09-2012 01:52 PM

You wouldn't want to throttle out of that. By breaking traction in the rear the back end would come around. Just off throttle and counter steer.

looks like hydroplaning to me
