Help Fine-Tune my system

Hey all, once again another group of questions.

Purchased a 2000 Civic siR for a cheap commuter and I tossed a basic stereo in it. Just need some help dialing it in.

KDC-X996 is the Head unit
mrx-m1000 amplifier
This years type R 4+4 10" in slot ported box (ya i know the box is improper)
Polk audio components front
Polk audio coax rear

Now the deck has time correction, thats simple. 14band eq i think... Which is self explanitory. But what I dont get is "slope", frequencies etc. its got alot of tricky settings. Does anyone know how to properly use and tune this deck? I'd like to learn. For instance, my sub plays notes that it shouldnt be playing. I wish I knew how to explain this better.

Does the equalizer have choice of type, like parametric of graphic?

Start there first.......

Time correction, btw, is not simple. It affects all kinds of other things, like frequency response, phase, etc.

Also, you don't tune the deck. You tune the system. Compensate for placement of speakers, acoustics of car, equipment matching/limitations, etc.

Think your deck is tricky? Try working with an Alpine F1 Status setup.

This is why people pay those with experience the big bucks, right, Installerz?

You can learn this stuff, but it takes years of experience. There's plenty of stuff on the Internet to help you understand the terms and concepts, but it still boils down to experience and having a good ear.

Sorry, Keith, I went upstairs to grab a bite to eat and didn't see your response until after I finished posting. Yes, there's nothing like hanging out at a stereo shop with people who know what they are doing. That's how I learned years ago.

I used to rely on RTA's and other equipment to tell me if system was tuned properly, but progressed to tuning with ears as well. Having been a musician helps. Now that I'm getting older and my hearing is not that great anymore, I'm starting to doubt myself, LOL. That's why sound competitions are not in the cards for me anymore.

Did you know that time correction does not actually correct time? Its a series of phase control selections that make it appear as though you are correcting time.

That said, get one of us Soundsgood guys to tune your system and you'll be on the right track.

And that's because calling it anything else would confuse the hell out of most people.

It's good to see you guys willing to help keeners out. Used to be that way years ago. Keep up the good work.
