That pic gives me goosebumps :/
But yeah even your typical budget brake and muffler guy would do a way better job than that. I also don't get how they took that long to fix their weld the second time around. I got my whole catback done at muffler man a few years ago and it only took 2 hrs.
Shame on any shop that could let a customer leave with that monstrosity and charge for it.

T4RAWR 08-17-2012 10:57 PM

also agree that it looks like someone mig welded without gas on.

what a shit job.

optiblue 08-18-2012 12:28 AM

I've seen some pretty bad welding in my time, but this has to be one of the top worst welds. That should have never left the shop the first or second time. The craftsmanship of that weld is very sub par.

jpark 08-18-2012 01:22 AM

holy fuck lol

El Bastardo 08-18-2012 06:35 AM

Hall of Shame worthy

monkeywrench 08-18-2012 07:28 AM

Brings me back to my high school years. My first weld was better than that.

SpuGen 08-19-2012 09:09 PM

Waiting for Aria's response.

cho 08-23-2012 10:31 AM

not gonna happen lol

sonick 08-23-2012 10:45 AM

omg gross welds. Somebody should link this to their fb lol.

(they didn't know about the dash cam)

If you just point shoot and move the welds are still going to be fairly shitty. Just cause its mig still need some motion technique... :suspicious:

^^^wtf wat did they say when u showed them this?? do they have a bunch of 15yo working there

cdizzle_996 08-23-2012 03:33 PM

The video didn't seem like they were rippping your friends car.
Car has a loud exhaust. Nothing seem to passed over 5000rpm. It indeed was a "light drive"
Unless he want them to just cruising at 50km & rpm stay under 3000.

Just my 2cents.

Dosen't seem bad to me... looks like a pretty standard test drive to put a car through it's paces and make sure welds dont break/things don't rattle etc. etc.

If they were going WOT in every gear and doing a burnout it would be different.

If a customer came to me with a dash cam after we did some work and claimed that to be an "aggressive" test drive I would basically laugh them out of the store and tell them to take their future business elsewhere. Don't have time to deal high maintenance customers and bullshit like that.

cho 08-25-2012 07:41 PM

The shop denied driving it hard and when shown the dash cam, they installed his dual din for free for their "mistake"

Mr.Money 08-25-2012 09:41 PM

Ahaha.....

they knew their ass was on the line for driving a customers car hard...

dash cam ftw.

falcon 08-25-2012 10:07 PM

That's not "hard."

Seriously people... you get a performance upgrade and you don't expect a good test drive?

They likely installed the unit to get him out of there and keep him happy. Remember "customer is always right." Dosen't mean that was a hard/agressive test drive.

Limitless 08-26-2012 12:22 AM

That's my car in the video, and I didn't want to bash the shop here or anywhere else because I was happy with the conclusion of the situation after I messaged Aria about it.

Just wanted to make a few comments about the story though.. I was upset because of a number of things. I was never notified by them prior to the install that they would take my car out for a test drive. When my friend drove me back to the shop to pick up my car, I saw my car was parked in front of their shop and one of the employees was repeatedly revving the car over and over. The owner, employees and also their friends were crowded around my car with their cell phones out taking videos or pictures or whatever.
When they saw me get out of my friends car and walk towards my car they stopped and quickly shut off the car, which didn't give me a good impression of them. I asked if they test drove my car, the owner said no of course not, but another employee said yes. I asked them if they drove it hard and they said no of course not, they drove it very lightly.

When I went home I looked at the dash cam videos, and I was a fairly annoyed. One because the owner said they did not test drive it, but then in the video it shows him driving my car around. Second because it seemed like he drove it pretty hard even though his employee said they went on a very light drive. I did make a mistake though, because I came in with a quiet stock exhaust and in the dash cam video of their test drive it was already changed to an aftermarket exhaust that is obviously louder than stock. This made me think that the RPMs were a lot higher than they actually were, even though it's one of the quieter exhausts for the Z. (I didn't realize this until I rewatched the video recently after I had gotten used to the noise level) I gave them a message saying that I wasn't very happy with the dash cam video, and the owner replied with an apology and offered to install my double din for free since I wasn't happy.

I figured my car wasn't going to die from a drive like that, and the owner drives a heavily modded Z himself so there's no reason he would want to play around with my stock Z..

did you just miss the whole post before you?

cho 08-26-2012 12:11 PM

one of the employees have gotten a hold of me and in the process of giving me a refund

as i still stand they do good work, just don't go for welding unless you get the right guy to do it

Mr.Money 08-26-2012 12:54 PM

:suspicious: they got a brand new noob to weld your exhaust?

Cman333 08-29-2012 05:24 PM

Did you guys actually watch the video???

That was a VERY light drive. Wasn't near redline, no harsh starts, no tires chirping/screeching, no slamming on the brakes. I guarantee you, you bring your car to a mechanics for service they will give it a good rip because they need to make sure nothing is loose, rattling, leaks, etc.

Man, hate to see you guys ever get your car dynotuned. If you're bitching about revving 5-6k in a Z. Sorry, no sympathy on my end. I don't see anything done wrong with that test drive. I've met a couple guys from Aria, they all seem like decent people.

Any good shop would test the car before returning it to a customer. Last thing you want is having the customer pickup the car to find out there's an exhaust leak, rattle, alignment issue, etc etc. Although it doesn't make sense why they denied test driving the car. Your friend got a free deck install from a shop that didn't actually do anything wrong. So kudos.

flagella 08-29-2012 07:23 PM

That weld is so disgusting I almost puked. Looks like some kind of disease grew from that pipe.
