Artist draws portraits of himself on every drug imaginable

Found this pretty interesting.
Artist has been drawing self portraits of himself every single day since 1995.... then he started taking drugs and doing it.

thats scary as shit!

Is he drawing what he interprets stuff should look like or what he thinks of himself on the substance? I ask because some things like pot (all forms) and coke i dont think i see myself even remotely close to what he draws, i felt he was trying a bit hard to get a big reaction

I agree, he seems like he is trying to hard or to get a bigger reaction from his blog.

i agree as well. and its probably working too.
but who knows... maybe he does the drugs, looks in a mirror and starts drawing what he sees. and hes just fucked.

punkwax 08-29-2012 11:34 AM

I didn't click the links but would imagine his drawings would be a combination of how he looked and felt... Not just what he saw.

These 9 drawings were done by an artist under the influence of LSD -- part of a test conducted by the US government during it's dalliance with psychotomimetic drugs in the late 1950's. The artist was given a dose of LSD 25 and free access to an activity box full of crayons and pencils.

KingDeeCee 08-29-2012 12:44 PM

Most of these seem like interpretations of what he was thinking while on the drug and maybe after. He is an artist after all.

The portraits are not a literal interpretation of the artists conception of physical self-image under the influence of mind altering substances. The portraits are a reflection of the the artists modified experience of reality while on mind altering substances; emotion, sensory inputs, thought patterns all blended into the an abstract physical representation.

I disagree with your thought that the artist is attempting to promote a reaction through controversy. It's not uncommon for artists of any sort to partake in heavy use of drugs; I can easily compile a long list of very well recognized writers who used opium - Keats, Byron, Shelly, Dickens, Wilde, Doyle, Carroll, Poe. That's just a brief list of writers from a single period of history who used a specific drug; if I were to list every variation of artist who partook in any given drug at any point in history, I could go on nearly endlessly. Furthermore, it's not uncommon in the least for artists to openly make reference to the use of drugs and the power of inspiration they hold in their work. I fail to see how this specific artist falls outside the realm of normality given his occupation.

huffing lighter fluids?? Wow... I am amazed he can operate under the influence

Was I the only one looking down the list for krokodil?

"Real absinthe" would probably be the only one I would be curious to try off that list.

punkwax 08-29-2012 05:37 PM

^ you can in Seattle.

absinthe being a hallucinogen is just a myth, go look it up.

It doesnt do anything more than any other high proof alcohol.

British Columbia does have any regulations regarding absinthe, you could theoretically purchase a bottle with high thujone content locally.

America does has regulations regarding absinthe, I believe these are still current.

Quote:

The importation, distribution, and sale of absinthe is permitted with respect to the following restrictions:

-The product must be thujone-free as per TTB guidelines,
-The word "absinthe" can neither be the brand name nor stand alone on the label, and
-The packaging cannot "project images of hallucinogenic, psychotropic or mind-altering effects."

Absinthe imported in violation of these regulations is subject to seizure at the discretion of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.[111][112]

Interesting to see the intense variation

On a side note, while browsing that website, I couldn't help but to think that MindBomber's avatar came from there ;)

Saw a bottle yesterday at the 260 Tobacco & Spirits along the I5 just north of Bellingham. The label said 'Absinthe' and was pretty expensive.

Thujone is not what makes absinthe absinthe...

Last I tried, you couldn't get real absinthe in BC or Seattle, you have to order online to get anything decent.

La Clandestine
Lasalla
Duplais
Angelique
Segarra

All popular, true absinthe. Countries such as Switzerland (where it originated) France (where it was most popular), Spain all produce good legitimate absinthe. But that doesn't mean they are automatically bad. However stuff from Czech or UK pretty much are automatically bad.

There are good handcrafted absinthes being made in the states, but there is also the marketing crap as well. My recommendation is, before ever buying a bottle, to check reviews on reputable review sites (FeeVerte being the original, I've been a member there for I thnk going on 12 years now)

BaoTurbo 08-30-2012 03:00 AM

Wow all these drugs he took and he said he had mild brain damage. Idk about him but I think these drugs are not good for him for sure

OTG-ZR2 08-30-2012 03:00 AM
