Been 3 times and Linda and Frank are great - it's indeed a very dated place and it feels like you've gone to grandmas for dinner. I'll miss it.

Gilgamesh 08-30-2012 05:39 PM

It's pretty good. If you're expecting 5 star michelin steaks, then probably not. I like their rice (vinegar, green onion, etc).

subordinate 08-30-2012 07:24 PM

Crazy, I wonder why they reopened it. I tried coming in for food one time, and saw it had a leased sign up and was permanently closed.

I might give it a shot again.

Vansterdam 08-30-2012 07:38 PM

will def go before they close

I went there tonight. Forced....... I mean convinced....... ok, begged the wife to go along. We got there and there were about a dozen people waiting outside. I thought, shit, this is going to be a long wait. I was totally prepared to line up for one, maybe two hours. Just as I'm about to turn left onto Clark Drive from Hastings, the crowd disperses and heads across Hastings.

Great, only one chick waiting outside the door now. Awesome! I found parking on the street and got to the door. Chick's gone........great, we're gonna get in, I thought to myself. I go to turn the door knob and it's locked. WTF? Just then, I notice the same crowd of people that were hanging around the place moments ago waiting in front of the African Nairobi or whatever restaurant on Hastings. WTF? I knock on the door and peer into the window. Old caucasian woman inside gives me the no go, sign. They shut down the place early. Sign says open till 10:00 pm and it's only 7:15. That explains the crowd in front of the Etheropian restaurant.

Oh well, I headed out to Nick's. On my way there, I start to feel ripped off, so I decided right there and then to try Tom and Jerry's. Went for their $9.99 steak dinner, LOL. Wife was not happy, but hey, what's a frugal asian to do?

I should have gone to On Lok, damn it!

Haha, good thing I didn't ask my gf to go. (Although I thought about it) She would have been pissed for dragging her to a crappy looking place that wasn't even open.
I still want to try it, but probably won't have the time.

Along that area I would have went with Viet food. Thai Hang or Le Petit Saigon are pretty good and cheap.

skyxx 08-31-2012 10:54 PM

If the place gets too crazy and she can't handle it, she will lock the entrance. LOL

HonestTea 09-01-2012 03:28 PM

Is this place even opened today? Tried calling and no one picked up..

So, did the ol' East End Tour today. Went to that French cheese place on Hastings then a few other places, including, you guessed it........ Brave Bull.

Almost two hours there. Poor son and daughter (maybe daughter in law) were run off their feet. Son had absolutely no idea what he was doing, but they managed. Steak was good and I went in there expecting it to be a long wait. At the end, my wife decides to pitch in and clean tables, 'cause dude was like not keeping up. Two other patrons were helping, too.

I can now say I have been there.

Overall it was a good experience. Be prepared for a long wait, though. Some customers were like getting all uptight - a family left their table before food came. Geez........ what do these people expect? It's the last two days before it closes and it's known to be a two person operation.

Oh, forgot. It was steaks only and no seafood or anything else on the menu. Another one............ don't order the clam chowder, because it ain't clam chowder.

On a side note, since we are sort of on the topic of things closing down, tomorrow is the last Sunday for the food cart thingy, which happens to be a skip, jump, and a hop away - by the Walforf. Can't miss that!

You can get pretty nice steak for $9.99 at the joint on Gilmore and Hastings. The reason why I went was to say I've been there and to meet the couple before they retire. The old woman was so proud of her past. So sad, yet happy for them.

I thought I would never step foot in that place, but I'm glad I did.

That, sir, brought a tear to my eye. :tears:

Thanked.

MG1 09-02-2012 05:52 PM

Yup, the story behind the steak made it the best I've had in a long ass time.

Love the wedding photo up on the wall and the pic of her when she was 22, although she insists she was 21 at the time, LOL.
