I've always wanted to go in there and try but 9.99 for a steak? taht's been keeping me away

GLOW 08-30-2012 10:37 AM

not bad for $9.99...really nice lady...talked to us a few times when we ate there...1 time my friend was chatting with her and she talked to us for over an hour telling us her life story...

AVS_Racing 08-30-2012 11:08 AM

Hm used to always drive by there perhaps should try

HondaGuy 08-30-2012 11:11 AM

Wow, that place has been there forever. Always passed by when driving on hastings and clark.

bcrdukes 08-30-2012 11:32 AM

It's no Keg or Hy's, but for $10, you get a pretty good wholesome meal. I've been there twice and both Linda and Frank are a very charming couple. If you're an original East Vancouverite, at least go there once.

icemiko 08-30-2012 11:38 AM

Always drove by it too and want to try but never got the chance. Looks so ghetto outside. :suspicious:

MG1 08-30-2012 11:40 AM

Dayum............. like most people, I've always wanted to go. Now I have to go.

If bcrdukes ate there and is still healthy, then it's a good sign.

bcrdukes 08-30-2012 11:43 AM

MG1, you have not been?

You should go. I've been twice and have been wanting to go back. It's a piece of Vancouver that should be experienced by an OG East Van rat like you and I.

Been there twice, its nothing great, pretty much what you expect for a $9 steak with veggies/potatoe. Restaurant itself is a bit of a dive and dated, however the owners/operators are super friendly, kinda like eating at a grandparents place with dated decor, will fill you up for under $10.

murd0c 08-30-2012 11:59 AM

HMMMMMMM I have always wanted a commerical deep fryer in my kitchen :fullofwin:

GLOW 08-30-2012 12:00 PM

i wouldn't call it a dive, but definitely dated. it was actually a blast from the past for me, it's like i stepped in to a time machine back in the 80's because my parents owned a few restaurants/cafes back in the day and made me feel nostalgic :nyan:

I would fail you but you can redeem yourself by going. :troll:

Just kidding. :D

jerche 08-30-2012 12:24 PM

Went there once and like most ppl say, the owners are super friendly and they just makes you feel at home.

One thing that wasn't too good is the SLOOOWWW service. The one time I was there, it took over an hour to get our food. Can't blame them since it's only operated by two ppl

gars 08-30-2012 01:29 PM

I ate there a few years back. I would say it's definitely much better than a similarly priced foot-long at Subway.

I'll see if I can go back before it closes completely. Had a nice chat with the lady while I was there too...

StylinRed 08-30-2012 01:35 PM

i was under the impression that it was closed and the original owners had long since gone

never been

HonestTea 08-30-2012 01:37 PM

So they're open until this Sunday? Always wanted to try..

Matlock 08-30-2012 01:45 PM

That place has been there for years and I never had the chance to try it.
I read some mixed reviews online, but still $10 is cheap.

Let’s be honest here, the food isn’t going to blow you away, it’s not gonna win any awards, but it’ll fill your belly, and it won’t make you sick. It’s cooked with care, love, and dedication. At the end of the day, isn’t that what food is about? To nurture and nourish oneself. Linda was very nice and made sure to check on us frequently, and what tugged at my heartstrings is that other customers would say “see you next week!” to her at the end of their meal, like it was a ritual, a weekly habit.

edit: Thanks OP for this, I've seen Brave Bull close and reopen a couple times now, as there would be days when I drove past and a sign would be up for lease, but then seemingly next week they were once again open...looks like it's finally time to shutter the building for Linda. Just earlier this week I drove by and saw the neon OPEN sign on, and was quite happy to see to.

RS mini meet at Brave Bulls:)

Graeme S 08-30-2012 05:14 PM

I feel so bad for them. They're gonna get crushed 'til Sunday.

I had a bunch of students come with me one time; table for seven or eight I think. We were almost the only ones there, and as she started taking away our plates, it was all I could do to not jump up and be like "No, grandma, let me take care of it!"

We gave her this big ol' tip and she counted what we'd left and was like "This is all for me?!" It was cute but kind of sad.
