My metric for sushi is usually the toro (tuna belly), and Kamizato is the best I've ever had. The prices are a bit higher than other sushi places, (ie toro was $2.95, while other places would be $2.25), but it is well worth it! All the sushi is top-notch. We'll go back, in the next week, before my cousins have to leave.

I made sure to mention your name, but I forgot Mike's name at the time, but the lady knew that it was "Maggie and Mike" ;)

I especially enjoyed the classic rock that they play there!

Aww yay!! I'm glad you guys had a great time. If you haven't already, these are some of our favorite items:

-Aburi Saba
-Asian Nachos (homemade salsa..SO good)
-Amaebi sushi (ask Keith to deepfry the amaebi head and have him make it into a cone for ..OMG)
-Mango..yellow maki road. I forgot the name..
-Spicy and Shout roll
-Spicy chopped scallop roll. He makes his spicy sauce from scratch and it's #1

I  them!

You guys who recommend pho99, I dunno what you guys consider good but that shit was probably the worst pho I've had that I can remember, will not repeat.

Why don't you recommend some pho joint in Coquitlam? There's actually a bunch of pho99 around.

I find the soup not bad and the portion super-generous.

Hondaracer 10-24-2012 03:30 PM

the broth was greasy as fuck and spring rolls were the same.. i went to the one off north road and the chick i was with said it was exactly the same/as bad as the one on schoolhouse

all my favorite pho places are in Surrey or Vancouver, so i cant recomend one in coquitlam, but just cause i cant doesnt mean that 99 is good lol

my greek is pretty awsome +1 for freakshow

I found Sushi Kazimoto a bit over priced and the portions were way too small. Best dish there was probably the Tuna Gomaee but the time we went we had to wait a long time for our dishes.

OTG-ZR2 11-04-2012 09:10 AM

Pho Huy is best in Tri-citys IMO.

Pho99 on Schoolhouse > Pho99 on North Rd.

Has anyone ever tried Town Hall in Coquitlam? I'm wondering if its as good as the other one. The Town Hall in Langley is really good and if you wear a Man-U jersey they might give you a surprise ;)
They have an insane burger at that particular restaurant. It's got so much meat on it that but the chef doesn't think that's enough so he tops it off with prawns. It comes with a pound of fries. It's insane!! Pricey but I think its worth it or atleast worth it to try it once in your life.

Presto 11-06-2012 09:56 AM

I went to the Townhall in Coquitlam, last week. It's alright. If I recall, the prices are a bit on the high side. There wasn't any cheap, microbrewed beer, like the one in Langley. I miss the French Quarter Pub :(. Woody's is a good alternate, though.

cdizzle 11-06-2012 12:03 PM

breakfast specials at Coquitlam Townhall are good though

I kinda agree with the grease comment...although my pho 99 spot is by coquitlam centre mall.

I forgot to mention, Muy Garden on North Rd has THE BEST chinese style curry beef brisket. Can never get sick of it, I can eat it daily! lol. Creamy yogurt curry sauce :drool

Im going to venture slightly out of the area but Burger Heaven in New West is one of the best old school burger joints in all of lower mainland, fkkk that fat burger and five guys shit. Dont go to Chronic Tacos accross the street, salty as fkk

I'm here right now w/ the gf.

Ordered tako wasabi, assorted sashimi, spicy shout, yellow brick and spicy scallop rolls.

I don't order omakase on busy nights. Maybe when we come on a weeknight.

We already like the atmosphere and friendly staff.

Girl 03-01-2013 08:59 PM

i went to Sushi Kamizato with 2 foodie/chefs. The sushi was really good there but their hot meals was a disaster that night. The udon was cold and the sauce was clumpy. Their avacado tofu appetizer was just blended up tofu with pieces of avacado. I was hoping it was just that night. The sushi was good though and the owner/sushi guy was super friendly. Other then that, my guests were quite disappointed.

+1 Matoi has been consistant for me. Loved Chada Thai when it first opened, it was a bit pricey though, don't know if it's still. Deer Garden is good for cantonese food. Poco Ocean is pricey but it's cuz the food is so damn good. Their honey garlic wings, their pork hock are thumbs up. Pho Sen has good soups, Pho Huy has an infinite amount of beef, it's like pho with your beef.

Cora's Breakfast, Urban Gate for their $8 skewer specials, Takano Noodle House.

There's an awesome shanghainese place in Henderson. It's in the food court, it;s pricey but the food is superb. The nebayaki udon at Sushi Turn House is good.

House of Tofu on North Road is a great korean joint, good pricing, softest tofu.

Went to Kefi's today, that was alright. I heard their roast lamb is superb.

I like Koi Sushi in PoCo, used to go there a bit for the after 5pm AYCE with the ex.
Service can be a bit slow though due to the small size of the place, but food quality is pretty darn good.

murd0c 03-06-2013 03:03 PM

Micky's pub in Coquitlam is great(old two parrots) and I'm really interested in the new Orange resturant and bar thats opening across from the Costco on Ottawa.

iamon 03-06-2013 03:27 PM

Is there a HK Cafe style restaurant in coquitlam that is better than Westwood Cafe? I know copa cafe is close by but reviews on them suck. Also is there another AYCE sushi joint besides Koi?

TIA!

civiccer 03-10-2013 09:24 AM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lucky Gate.... I don't like chinese food, but this is the authentic stuff.... szechuwan food. Most amazing chinese food I've ever had in my life. I can't tell you enough how great their food is. From hot and sour soup, to the pork pancakes, and spicy beef... you need to try it for yourself. So so good.
1139 Austin Ave Coquitlam

Also, Kirin Seafood Restaurant has great dim sum. It's pretty pricey, but to be honest I don't really remember their food... just the egg tarts. I live for their egg tarts. They only make them on occasion but I've never had a better egg tart.
I just had a look at their website and it looks like the Coquitlam location is closed but there are 4 other locations to visit. Closest one to Coq is in New West at the Starlight.
Welcome to KirinRestaurants.com

snowfly 03-15-2013 09:35 PM

Nagano near coquitlam centre has pretty decent sushi. priced around 50$ for 2 people.

knight604 12-18-2013 11:27 AM

SUSHI KAMIZATO is okay but yuji is still better for me , maybe im just more traditional

murd0c 12-18-2013 11:34 AM

Tip Thai in DT Poco is fricken awesome and they have great lunch deals. Pad Thai combo for $7.34 with tax.

LuHua 12-19-2013 11:01 AM

Tip Thai's great, and if you're in that area a lot give Matteo's Gelato and Martha's Bakery a shot. Good gelato from Matteo's, and good sandwiches and diner-style food from Martha's.
