^You mean their unagi don? No I haven't, I'm not a huge fan of eel but can give it a go next week as I already used up my weekly quota of a sushi k visit. Their asian nachos is pretty tasty too, good for "beer" food.

Sushi Kamizato is more of a fine dining place, portion is small and pricey but with a lot of thoughts put into them.

The chef and his wife is extremely good people. If he make a special dish for you, he will explain how it works and in what order you should taste the meal to get the most out of it. Very technical!

I think they close Sunday.

Btw, for pho, I've been going to pho Huy, any other recommendations?

I tried Pho 99 (by Coquitlam centre) and the pho is delicious. Not to mention big portion, lots of meat as well. Beat pho Huy for sure.

Open quite late till 11:00pm daily I believe.

No one's mentioned Pho Sen yet?

Several of us go there at least once a week. Good pho, good rice dishes, restaurant is modern and the owners are really nice. It's in Lincoln Plaza, across from Henderson.

Things to try:
-all the pho dishes are pretty solid
-spicy coconut curry beef w/veg is always really fresh
-special duck dish is boneless and really good
-strawberry smoothie is great

There's also:
Donair Affair (Wilson/Maryhill by 7-11)
Lee's Chicken (Prairie/Coast Meridian)
Pearl Fever and
Cora's (both in Sunwood Plaza, Westwood/Lougheed, NW cor.)
FuLin hotpot (next to PhoHoa/Shoppers)
Go Gung Korean BBQ (Parkway Blvd. up on Westwood)

BTW, anyone been to All Thai'd Up, on Kingsway/Westwood? It's across from Gino's Tires. It's a hole in the wall Thai place, run by a couple and some friends say the pad thai is really good there.

^

All Thai'd Up was okay I thought, they made my Pad Thai too moist in my opinion.
I never really liked FuLin, I'd rather go the AYCE hot pots in richmond.

if you guys liked the old fuji sushi, then dont go to the new one. (not yet, anyways)
biggest.disappointment.ever.

i dont think they're quite back at where they used to be just yet. (understatement)

the rice is mediocre. the rolls are a mess (triangle, falling apart, lopsided and cut unevenly. wtf?)
the tempura was deep fried with old oil, and overdone.
they also raised the prices for a few items
i was observing the staff members, and they are very inexperienced and they ran around aimlessly not knowing what to do. one of them seemed really out of it and was just zoned out into her own world. 2 of them seem to be pretty good though, out of about 5-6 waitresses.
(only saw 1 waitress retained, and the owner and 1 sushi chef. not sure about the kitchen...)

every one of their old staff left with the previous manager to tairyou on kingsway beside bubbleworld. if you miss fuji, go to tairyou instead, until fuji gets their act together

i have to give sushi kamizato a try. ive been meaning to for awhile now

@cdizzle: I agree about FuLin but for the area, it's decent. Would definately rather go to Rmd or Fatty Cow but it's a drive.

I agree with everything you said. Huge disappointment for sure. We ordered the super deluxe sashimi and it was the biggest rip off. Nothing about it made it "super" or "deluxe". Katsudon sucked balls, the pork tasted super funky, and the service was just horrible. "i think you go up to pay", that's what one server told us.

Fuji sushi definitely has gone downhill. We went 2 weeks after the opening night and waited for 30 min to get a seat ( we stood at the door for 10 minutes without a server writing down our names for the lineup. Even then, they told us to write our names on the piece of paper on the wall, wtf?). Once we got to our tables, there was no tea, and there was rice on one of the dishes, server says to not worry about it, WTF?. I did not get my food until 40 minutes later and I got my main dish instead of the appetizer. After 1 hour and 20 min later, the server asks me if I ordered my appetizer... Big dissappointment.

Yea, the evergreen forced Fuji to close down because its going to directly run through the old plaza that Fuji used to be at. After the close, the decision was all still up in the air with the old owner whether he wanted to open up a new place or not, so the previous manager bought his own place to run.

When I went to the new Fuji, there wasn't a piece of paper on the wall for guests to write their name down with. It was a piece of paper on a clipboard just sitting on a chair and a paper taped to the backrest saying "write your name down" lol

Thanks for the recommendation! I took my cousins there, tonight. It's tucked away in the plaza by the Canadian Tire. The owners are really nice. My metric for sushi is usually the toro (tuna belly), and Kamizato is the best I've ever had. The prices are a bit higher than other sushi places, (ie toro was $2.95, while other places would be $2.25), but it is well worth it! All the sushi is top-notch. We'll go back, in the next week, before my cousins have to leave.

I made sure to mention your name, but I forgot Mike's name at the time, but the lady knew that it was "Maggie and Mike"

I especially enjoyed the classic rock that they play there!
