School Me On A New Cell Phone? So I'm close to sick and tired of my Blackberry Torch 9800 and I'm finally thinking about giving Blackberry up since the future seems so grim and I need a new cell sooner then later :okay: I've been looking at the Galaxy 3 and was wondering your guys hands on opinion compared to the 4S? I don't know that much about either other then the regular iphone stuff. I've never been all too big into apps but what the hell do I know since Blackberry beyond lacks them right now. My biggest issue is the no BBM/Groups and of course no keyboard which I really like since I can type with out looking. Just wondering what's the best next move for me or should I wait until something better comes out which I don't have a clue how long that will even be? My next issue is I have 1 year left with Rogers on a 3 year contract and they will not let me upgrade with out paying a $165 upgrade fee and a $35 admin fee which really pisses me off. I have a friend that works for Bell and she said she can hook me up with the Galaxy for free, free car charger and otter box for it. Would it be a good idea to leave Rogers (been having lots of dropped called and not the best reception as well) is Bell a better evil or what is your advice?? Thanks for this I have been thinking about this for a while and I'm kinda paranoid on making the wrong choice dammit :concentrate: |
I would like to add I have always been anti iphone, just drives me crazy but I gotta say the camera seems pretty sick and the waterproof lifeproof case is beyond crazy and something I could use. |
Galaxy ftw... Ultimate customnization |
be patient and wait until Sept 12th for the new iPhone annoucement. See if you like the new design and features.. then decide between Galaxy S3 and the new iPhone :) check out the iPhone 5 thread here to find out more about the new iPhone! http://www.revscene.net/forums/67346...s6-thread.html Also just one more thing, when you buy an iPhone.. you're not just buying for the phone.. but the support as well. Apple is very lenient on fixing any problems with your phone without charge when you're still within your warranty. You can literally get your phone run over by a car and bring it to the Apple store.. and they might give you a replacement free of charge.. no downtime at all. Anyway, have fun choosing your phone! both are great phones and I'm sure it'll be a lot better than your BB! :fullofwin: |
First of all never buy torch, Bold is the best line up. If you have never tried the 9900 , it is the stepping stone to their upcoming devices. And if you plan to leave Blackberry, Go android. Upcoming devices to look out for: Iphone5 , if you into that apple brainwashing stuff Samsung Note 2 Samsung S3 Blackberry 10 L series and N series. (Full touch or QWERTY with touch) Most people have little hope in RIM because of all the bad press and their stock falling under, it is not like it hasnt happened before to RIM and they bounced back hard. 2 billion in the bank and debt free. I for one would love to see blackberry success because it is a Canadian company! |
s3. more option. more apps. bigger screen. |
The S3 is a godly phone, I am definitely one to admit. Between the two of them, I would say the S3. That having been said, the infrastructure is kind of about to get shaken up, and now is probably not the time to buy if you "just want to get a new phone". The iPhone 5 is coming out soon, and if nothing else will drive down the price of the 4S and most likely the S3. Also, rumor has it that Google is/will be overhauling their Nexus standard to make it more of a broad thing rather than just a single Nexus phone. Now why is the Nexus branding important? Updates. The Galaxy S1 didn't get an update for ICS. Many of the S2s didn't get updates for JB until recently, or even still haven't. The Nexus S, however, got Jellybean during the rollout in July. I (having rooted my Galaxy Nexus) loaded it the day of the announcement in June. Now, all that having been said, if you don't want to wait for the Nextus (which will honestly most likely get here early next year), then the S3 is a gorgeous, wonderous, splendiferous phone. And the iPhone 5 won't be easily available for months after the initial release--it's an apple product. The thing to keep in mind is that when you buy a phone these days, you're also buying the ecosystem. If you start buying movies and books and apps from one company's marketplace, things are no longer transferrable (unless it's something like an ereader app and it syncs cross-platform...not so common). Coming from a blackberry, like I did, you will find Android glorious. If it were me, I'd get an S3 over a 4S any day. also: GSMarena's Camera Comparison thingie. Photo Compare Tool - GSMArena.com |

So does anyone have advice on my cell phone carrier situtation? |
As far as waiting for the next nexus, I'm betting the specs on those phones won't be any better than what the S3 has now. If you look back last year when the galaxy nexus came out, it was pretty much the same phone as the S2 with a worse camera and no gorilla glass. It seems like the best part of the nexus line is the fact that you get stock android OS and updates right away. I'd wait for the iPhone 5 to be announced and then choose between that or the S3 imo <em>Posted via RS Mobile</em> |
just recently got a GS3 and heres what i think, ios is very simple and straight forward to use, easy to understand android is very customizable but a tad bit confusing abt some stuff, it took me a few days to work my way around all the menus and stuff, and im still discovering new features on the go as for the phone, i came from an iphone 4, so comparing the gs3 to iphone 4 is kinda unfair, but the gs3 is really smooth and fast, and the camera is awesome. still tho, i miss my iphone so i might ditch the gs3 for iphone 5 later in the year |
Keep in mind the S3 probably only will last you a day at most before it needs a charge. |
hoenstly, I've hated iPhones but they've grown on me. Here's why.. 1. CONSTANT support. What I mean is, there is always a new OS update regardless of the age/manufacturer. I used to use androids exclusively but I always had to root/flash the newest version. The androids also got buggy and laggy after a while, not sure why.. Some manufacturers don't update their software so you're stuck with whatever came in the box.. PLUS all their junkware. iPhone only has itunes for you to deal with, which I personally don't mind (have a mac). 2. Accessories. The accessories for it are just light years ahead of any android phone. Cases and sound docks (home and car) were my two big things. 3. iMessage. I'm aware that people have whatsapp but most of my friends had iphones and were too lazy to install it for me... iMessage just made sense for me. 4. iPod integration. I know this is a dumb one but it's easier for me to use in the car... Connection is faster and more stable for some unknown reason. 5. Last but not least, I don't care for widgets on my phone and the apps are much better. For the record I LOVE my android tablet and will never get an iPad but the portable apps are vastly superior. Things like... starbucks, facebook, twitter, 4square, mint all run more smoothly and have better interfaces/support than the android counterpart. btw, I don't really care about screen size of camera MP. Smaller screen works for me, I don't watch videos/play games and it means less pocket bulge. Not looking to replace my SLR with the iphone either.. |

Does Iphone even have flash yet? That's one thing I really want to I can stream sports. I don't like the new charging port on the 5 tho. How can I hook it up to my Bose sound dock dammit :okay: |

Do the iphones have HTML then? I'm such a iphone rookie I havn't even used one before :awwyeah: I'm just not sure if I would be better off with that GS3 or the 5. |

I don't have an LTE plan, and consistently get 20+ hours on a single charge. No gaming, and I'm pushing 30 hours (with about 3:30 screen-on time) Though to have 40Mbps down compared to the 5 I'm pulling no 3g+, I'd take that and last only a day over what I have now. Like others have said, wait for the new iPhone to show up. Play with both in store. Though if you suddenly decided to go S3, I can safely say you won't be disappointed. |

Wait til Sept 12 and the answer should be more clear On a side note, you can't go wrong with S3 unless you cannot stand Touchwiz (Samsung's skin on Android). Plus, Samsung sold more than 20million S3 since released |
I shall wait for the 12th and will bump this thread since I need it explained in laymans terms lol |
my s3 had horrible batt life during the first 5 days or so, 5 hr batt life, the phone wouldnt last a day with the amount of fiddling i do with my phones where as my iphone 4 would last 10hrs easily, but within the last few days i notice a change in batt life and the batt is lasting me almost as long as my iphone used to be |
thats kind of odd, any idea why that would of happened? |
Probably the LTE , even with the S4 snapdragon processor battery life seems to be taking a toll Check this site if you want to see the html5 benchmarks. The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5? |
I would get the iphone 5, with what you are saying. Don't worry, going from a BB,to either android or ios, you can't go wrong either way. Unless you need the berry for its Enterprise, either of these phones are superior for a regular consumer. You post a lot in the weed thread, so I'll break it down like this. Your blackberry is a standard $200 vaporizer. Gets the job done. Gs3, nexus, would be your digital volcano, and the iphone, your classic volcano. But, since you don't sound like a phone tech person, you might not need the extra bell and whistles the androids provide. Also, I work tech for a phone company, and a lot of the hardware problems follow as bb > samsung > iphone. Bb almost always break down, samsungs will glitch, but iphones seem a bit less prone, and overall better made. Plus, Apple also make their products seamless and user friendly. But, don't listen to me. I'm using a berry to type this, and the next phone I want is an gs3 :troll: Posted via RS Mobile |
Are you the type of guy that builds your own PC? Customize your desktop? If so, android is the type of phone for you. If you're not a gadget person, and just want something to use straight out of the box, iPhone is for you. As for carriers, Rogers and Bell LTE are almost equal. I would say that Rogers is in a slight lead. As for customer service, I can't tell you anything as I haven't experience Bell CS yet. I heard though Bell has better retention plans. But I wouldn't spend too much time deciding between the two because they both have great coverage and services. Whatsapp is starting to replace BBM and it is compatible between iPhone and Androids. If you haven't used it or heard of it, it's exactly the same. You can share pictures, videos, recorded sound, make group chats. If you're worried about the keyboard, swiftkey (an app) is awesome at predicting your words by learning your style of typing. I can mash around the keyboard trying to type a sentence and it'll predict 99% of the time. For me, I am an android guy, mainly because everything iPhone can do, android can. With that 1 - 1 in scores, androids have bigger screen, which is a huge plus for me when it comes to watching videos. S3 has new features other android smartphones don't have, and that is the phone I would recommend if you decide to choose android. |
Good time to buy a new smartphone phone. iPhone 5 announced next week, new Windows 8 phones from Nokia and others will also be out in the next month, so there's a lot to choose from. And all of them the latest & greatest. Going to be interesting when the inevitable reviews/ comparisons come out. Posted via RS Mobile |
Just got my upgrade fee from Rogers canceled so now at least I only have to worry about which phone to go with. |
