custom fuel tank

I am wondering, is there any regulation for custom fuel tanks? I am looking to change it on a cafe racer, however I want to make sure I don't break anything from the MVA.

Dont really know 100% but I would think its alright, you can paint panels on cars so painting a gas tank is fine. As long as it is proper automotive paint I dont think you will have any problems with ICBC.

The problems arise when you paint something like a helmet and claim head damage, once you custom paint your helmet it is no longer DOT or SNELL approved as paint can degrade the protective shell, so dont do it. A gas tank on a cafe racer has the collision safety of a pacifier in your mouth. Panels can be painted with automotive paint and the panel is structural to the car in an event of a crash yet its still covered.

Technically, anything modified can be used against you on the MVA. Having said that, I've been pulled over twice and botched at for other things, but never mentioned anything about the tank that's clearly not original
