Found someones backpack, what to do?

ok so a guy just left his bag at my work. with his wallet and misc other goods. usually if they have a credit card i just call the cc company and tell them i have their clients stuff and they let their client know.

this time there is no cc and no debit card. there is a drivers license, a BIRTH CERTIFICATE, costco card and a couple other unimportant cards. who do i call? icbc maybe?

Check their address on the DL if its not too much of a hassle maybe drive it over to them?

It'll be a lot faster than going through ICBC imo and if somebody did that for me I would reward them handsomely.

Probably should leave a note that says "you forgot this ______________, a friendly _______________ employee dropped it off for you"

Many people's driver's licences are not up to date with current addresses. I would at least knock on the door first to make sure.

if someone found a random abandoned backpack in the USA....the whole city block would have been shut down and the bag would have been blown up lol

Just try taking it to the address on the license. I left my purse on the skytrain once and that night some dude found it in a garbage can in surrey and rode his bike to my house to give it back. i gave him $100

If its too far or your busy...try taking it to the community police station.

you can drop it off at any police station and they will contact the guy especially it has all his info in the bag.
But have you considered ever leaving it at your work for a few days to see if the guy does come back to pick it up?

^x2

I've found a wallet before FILLED with important cards/documents, so I took it to the community police station at like 1am after work.

Lady working night shift seemed annoyed that I buzzed in the first place, but when I told her what it was she warmed up and told me she'd make sure to get it back to the owner.

You may not get a reward from the owner this way, but it's a bit easier...and maybe even a bit safer.

Probably best to do it during the day whenever you're free. Pounding on a door at 4:30 am looks a bit suspicious.

Any updates?

Probably not the best idea considering OP said the bag smelt like weed. You'll be shooting the owner in the foot.

Last time someone left their wallet at my store, I looked up their name and matched the address to the yellow pages and gave em a call to come in and grab it.

I don't know where you work but if you are at a respectable company, you should inform your boss and give him the items to hold in a secure place. Simultaneously, someone should attempt to contact the owner. I would assume that most people would return to the business to inquire so holding it there for a day might not be a bad idea. In the event that he does not show, you could drop it off at a police station and they would have more methods to get in touch with the individual.

Secondly, I would not leave a bag randomly at someone's door; way too many assumptions. And I don't think people should be doing the right thing in order to get a reward so it should not even factor into your decision of what to do; people stop bringing it up.

Take it to the Police station. They will contact the owner and try to give the bag back. Smells like weed and has weed in it are two different things. Besides, if the owner is that concerned about getting in trouble with Police: 1) Probably not someone you want to meet at 430am. 2) He can make his own decision if he wants to go pick it up from the Police station since he should know whats in his bag.

ok so. i decided not to bring it to the address on his DL. good thing to. ended up not being his current address. i had decided last minute to just keep it for the day to see if he would come looking for it, and he did. he was so shocked that no one stole his cash he left us $50 which i gave to the staff to split up.

and there was no weed. just smelt like weed.

glad things worked out. don't be stupid and carry your damn birth certificate around!! even if your name is McLovin.
