The connectors themselves were probably shoddy or damaged, the actual cable itself has nothing to do with the signal, but thats one of the disadvantages of china cables, bad construction .

That's about true about for all competitors as most are made in China from start to finish. Blue Jeans is different; only connection and final assembly is done in China but everything else is made with US content.

Those cables I had were probably badly constructed ones which I was given so it would affect the result of the data transfer. Didn't want to hassle the risk of getting anymore cheap ones so I just gotten Blue Jeans HDMI since I already have been getting them years ago for their RF and component cables since they use Belden for those cables. Lifetime warranty on them and never had to send one back. Since I been to their facility, I have seen the workmanship and equipment they use putting their RF and Component together for me I waited and watch my own cables being made on the spot when I ordered.

A decent HDMI should work properly but I guess I had bad luck.

Blue jeans sells 2 types of HDFMI cabl. The Tartan brand that is 100% Chinese and there Blue jeans brand. The Blue Jeans brand has the bulk cable made by Belden in the US then the rollls of cable are shipped to China to make the cable, I doubt there is a difference in the 2 cables they sell. Belden also makes HDMI cables. They are 100% Chinese. All cables haver to be certified by the HDMI coalition and have to meet there standards.

It's been a while since I purchased cables from them but I did not know they sell economy Tartan brand now (I just looked them up on the Blue Jeans site when you mentioned it). At the time when I gotten mine, they only sold the two Belden types; now with Tartan, a total of 4 (not counting the clearance one for the 5th).

Tartan would be the true 100% made Chinese while the more expensive Belden as not quite as you stated above, since I'm also aware of this as well.

Overall for your typical cable runs, Tartan will work fine, a great alternative. The difference between Belden and Tartan will show if you're going to do more of a distance run as you notice the longest run available to select on Belden is greater than the Tartan at similar gauges. Further support would be finding out the Tartan specs and comparing as well.

I would say there would be no harm going with either of these two brands; it's more of a personal preference then.
