| Canadian flag removed from Quebec National Assembly Quote:
As some Quebec politicians were sworn in as Members of the National Assembly on Monday, one item was noticeably absent from the proceedings: the Canadian flag.
According to reporters who attended the swearing-in, the flag had been removed from the National Assembly. The Maple Leaf had been on display during Jean Charest’s nine years as premier.
Although the Canadian flag did not fly during the ceremony, Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois, who will officially become premier on Wednesday, did pledge allegiance to the Queen, and to the people of Quebec.
Political commentator and former Liberal MP Jean Lapierre said Monday the Maple Leaf’s absence marks the beginning of “probably a lot of confrontation” with the federal government.
“We’ve never seen a PQ government do anything in the shadow of the Canadian flag,” Lapierre told CTV’s Power Play. “But obviously we can see the difference because for nine years, every time there was an important event, Jean Charest made sure the Canadian flag was there.”
Marois was sworn in as MNA for Charlevoix-Cote-de-Beaupre during a two-hour ceremony Monday along with 54 other PQ MNAs. Marois will officially become premier and leader of a minority government on Wednesday, when she is invited to form a government by Lt.-Gov. Pierre Duchesne.
She is also expected to unveil her cabinet at that time. Liberal and Coalition Avenir Quebec MNAs will be sworn in on Tuesday.
While the federal government did not immediately comment on the missing flag, relations between the PQ government and Ottawa got rocky on Friday after the federal government announced it will no longer oppose the worldwide fight against asbestos.
Industry Minister Christian Paradis announced the government will no longer oppose efforts to list chrysotile as a hazardous material, a move it blamed on Quebec’s new government.
In his remarks, Paradis blamed Marois for killing jobs in the province by vowing to cancel a $58-million loan that would have re-opened the Jeffrey asbestos mine. The loan had been promised by the Charest government.
"First off I'd like to remind you that Pauline Marois, the premier-designate of Quebec, has clearly stated her intention to forbid chrysotile exploitation in Quebec," Paradis told reporters.
"Obviously that decision will have a negative impact on the prosperity of our regions...In the meantime hundreds of workers in our region are without jobs, are living in uncertainty and hoping the mine will reopen,” he said. “It would be illogical for Canada to oppose the inclusion of chrysotile in annex III of the Rotterdam Convention when Quebec, the only province that produces chrysotile, will prohibit its exploitation.”

In all seriousness though, the federal parliament will most likely enact something to "fix" this issue if this carries on...

There's still applications out there where it is one of the best materials for the job, high temperature insulations for one. There's tons of it out at Burrard Thermal for high temp pipe insulation, as long as it's not disturbed it's no big deal.

It's also been used in a lot of other modern construction projects as well. I just don't trust a lot of people to handle it properly, is all. lol. It's one thing to have it properly installed and maintained by professionals who know how to handle it, but when you have some basement bargain technician or mechanic working on pipes and tearing the insulation off with his bare hands because he's not aware that it contains asbestos... well, then it becomes a problem. Meh. There's a few new fibreglass and other organic fibre products out on the market now that are just as good, so it shouldn't really be too big of a deal to knock one product out.

They go after so many buisneses/building owners that do not have up logs of where and what type of asbestos, the fines can get up there...
Most of the time people (the school maintenance staff are bad for this) knowingly remove asbestos material because a little bit of cleanup after the fact is cheaper and easier then calling in professionals like my self.
There is some stuff out there now a days that is as bad, if not worse for you then asbestos. Ever chipped/grinded/ drilled into concrete? Silica dust will mess up your lungs bad. In fact WCB regs have changed so much in the last few years regarding that, if you caught doing anything that creates dust like that with out a half mask with P100 filters on it you can be nailed...
As for the Quebec mine that might get shut down, I honestly dont know how to feel about it. Ive pulled out so much here in BC... But it is a cheap/strong alternative to other materials that a 3rd/2nd world country may not be able to afford.
Ok, I'm done lol
(p.s. I dont work for Westcor....)

Ship everyone in Quebec to France.. Let them get a taste of how REAL Frenchies will treat them.
PS. Don't let them back into CANADA

I'm so tired of Quebec. At this point, if you want to leave, then leave. get it over with. I don't feel like having another 8 years where you stand there with your hands out saying "give us more money"

This is nothing new. The PQ removed the flag before Charest's time also.
While we all talk about how Quebec should just leave, a separation would have pretty big impacts for the country. Confidence in the Canadian dollar would slip, at least for a while. There are still some big companies headquartered in Quebec - notably Air Canada and Via Rail. What about links between the Maritimes and the rest of Canada? What about Northern Quebec which is inhabited by Inuit and First Nations who are administered by the federal government? And ultimately, once one province goes, the precedent will be set - would Alberta be provoked to leave? BC? Posted via RS Mobile |

That would be too much headache. And I wouldn't want to give those pricks the satisfaction.
I'm not sure if you could do this, but I would just fine them for not having the flag present. For me, national pride is something I hold dear to my heart. And it pisses me off when these pricks do shit like this.
How can you swear allegiance to the queen and not feel the need to fly our flag? Fcuking idiots.
